University of Georgia: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
The University of Georgia asks international undergraduates for final transcripts from each school translated into English and recalculates the GPA itself; its admissions pages do not say who must make the translation. University of Georgia accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The Graduate School asks for a certified, word-for-word translation by a translator authorized for the language, carrying the translator's stamp and signature, and does not accept evaluation reports; transfer applicants from non-accredited foreign colleges also need a course-by-course evaluation, which we do not provide.
GPA recalculated
UGA computes a new GPA from your translated records.
8 named agencies
Course-by-course evaluation for non-accredited foreign colleges.
Translator stamp

UGA requirements at a glance
| What UGA asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation (undergraduate) | Final transcripts from each school, translated into English (international FAQ). Who translates is not stated. |
| Translation (graduate) | A certified English translation attached to the original, literal and word-for-word, by a translator authorized for that language; the issuing institution may translate instead (source). |
| Evaluation | First-year: none, UGA calculates your GPA and you do not self-report grades (source). Transfer from a college outside the U.S. that is not regionally accredited: course-by-course evaluation from an approved agency (source). Graduate: external evaluations are not accepted (source). |
| Where to apply | Common App (fall first-year only) or the UGA Application (source). The application status page takes uploads, but not transcripts or school reports (source). |
| Graduate timing | Unofficial transcripts with the application; official records only if you are admitted, and not before (graduate FAQ). |
| Copies (graduate) | Original certification on records and translations; photocopied or faxed translations are not accepted (source). |
| Country rules (graduate) | A 60-country list sets what each system must send; China requires the university to issue both the Chinese and English documents (country list). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. UGA Undergraduate Admissions asks for "English-translated transcripts" without restricting who translates (international FAQ), and the Graduate School accepts a certified translator's translation with the translator's stamp and signature (graduate records page); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Undergraduate: UGA builds your GPA from the translation
UGA's international FAQ tells first-year applicants educated abroad to send final, English-translated transcripts from each school and to choose "Do not self-report grades" on the application, because Undergraduate Admissions calculates a new GPA from the records itself (source). U.S. citizens educated abroad apply as domestic students, but the same recalculation applies to their international transcripts.
Since admissions staff convert your marks themselves, the translation has to carry every subject, every mark and the grading scale exactly as printed, for every year on the transcript. We keep grades as they appear and never convert them; the conversion is UGA's job.
Transfer applicants are reviewed on a calculated transfer GPA from all colleges attended (transfer criteria). If your college is outside the U.S. and not regionally accredited, UGA requires a course-by-course evaluation from one of eight approved services, among them ECE, IERF, Josef Silny, Scholaro, The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran) and WES, and says the application stays incomplete without it. Credit from non-U.S. institutions is awarded without letter grades (source).
The Graduate School's translator rules
The Graduate School is the most specific office at UGA on translations. Its transcripts and academic records page asks for a certified English translation attached to the original record, literal rather than interpretive, made by a translator authorized to translate from that language, with the translator's original stamp and signature. Photocopied and faxed translations are refused, and so are evaluation reports from outside agencies: UGA reads the records itself. The issuing institution may supply its own translation under its original stamp.
You apply with unofficial transcripts; official records are requested only if you are offered admission, and the FAQ asks you not to mail them before (graduate FAQ). The country-specific list then names what is official for each system. For Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Germany or Vietnam, among many others, the English translation may carry either the institution's stamp or the certified translator's stamp or credential. China is the exception: the university must issue both the Chinese and the English documents. Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand expect English records in a sealed envelope from the institution, and notarized copies never count as official records.
Where UGA's pages differ
For international transfer students who prove English proficiency with the SAT, the international FAQ lists an Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 430, while the transfer criteria page lists 480. We have not resolved that difference; ask Undergraduate Admissions which figure applies to your term.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts for every year, translated in full
- College or university transcripts from every institution attended
- Degree certificate or diploma when the transcript does not show the degree and date
- Course syllabi when the record does not show the subjects studied (graduate)
- Mark sheets and grading scale pages
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to UGA
Undergraduate applicants apply through the Common App or the UGA Application; school records go through the school, and the application status page does not accept transcripts as uploads (source). Ask your school how it will send the translation with the transcript.
Graduate applicants upload unofficial transcripts and translations in the graduate application and, if admitted, send records with original certification and the translation attached to the original to Graduate Admissions in Brooks Hall (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For UGA we translate your records; we do not provide the course-by-course evaluation transfer applicants from non-accredited foreign colleges need, and for Chinese degrees at the Graduate School the translation must come from your university. The Graduate School wants the translator's original stamp and signature and refuses photocopies, so ask Graduate Admissions how to deliver a translation you received electronically before you send official records.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my transcripts for UGA undergraduate admission?
UGA's international FAQ asks for English-translated transcripts and does not restrict who translates (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that.
Do I need WES or another evaluation to apply as a first-year student?
No. UGA calculates a new GPA from your records, and you should not self-report grades (source). An evaluation is required for transfer applicants from non-regionally-accredited colleges outside the U.S.
Will the Graduate School accept a WES evaluation instead of a translation?
No. The Graduate School does not accept evaluation reports from external agencies; it wants the records and a certified, word-for-word translation (source).
My degree is from China. Can a translator translate it for UGA graduate admission?
No. UGA's country list asks the Chinese institution to issue both the Chinese and the English documents under its own seal (source).
When do I send official graduate transcripts and translations?
Only after you are offered admission; apply with unofficial copies (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
