Salt Lake Community College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Salt Lake Community College asks every visa applicant for official proof of finishing secondary school and says English translations may be required, without naming who must make them; the documents are uploaded in the application portal, not emailed. Salt Lake Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Credit for college study abroad also needs a course-by-course report from The Evaluation Company or WES, which we do not provide, and course syllabi may be translated by the student.

What SLCC asks for
Translation"English translations may be required" for the proof of high school graduation, on the pages for applicants abroad, transfers, change of status and other visas (abroad, change of status, other visas); the Spanish page says the same (en español).
Who may translateNot stated for admission documents. For syllabi sent for specific course credit, SLCC says the translation need not come from a professional organization (source).
What is translatedOfficial proof of secondary education equivalent to a US academic high school diploma (source). For college credit, all foreign transcripts and supporting documents (evaluation handout).
EvaluationNone for the high school proof. For college credit, a comprehensive, course-by-course report from The Evaluation Company (TEC) or World Education Services (WES), sent by the service to SLCC (source).
Where to uploadSLCC Application Portal, Home tab, "Additional Info Required"; SLCC asks you not to email documents (source).
DeadlinesFrom abroad: April 1 (summer), June 1 (fall), November 1 (spring); transfers within the US: April 30, July 17, December 4 (deadlines).
Residents and immigrantsGeneral admission needs a state-recognized high school diploma or a state-issued GED (admissions FAQ); the foreign college credit rules below apply to every degree-seeking student.
Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. SLCC's International Student Services asks for official proof of high school graduation and adds that "English translations may be required" on every visa application page (applying from outside the U.S., transfer), without saying who must translate. A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that translation. Policy checked on October 13, 2026.

F-1 admission: one translated document

For a visa applicant, SLCC's admission file is short: proof of funds, a passport page, and official proof that you finished secondary school at the level of a US academic high school diploma (source). No TOEFL or other English test is needed; everyone goes through placement on arrival, and students whose English is not ready for college work enter the Intensive ESL program, where F-1 students can take only the morning classes. The I-20 and acceptance letter are issued only after every document is in, and incomplete files are not reviewed.

That makes the diploma or completion certificate, with its transcript, the document that decides your file. SLCC compares it with a US academic diploma, so the translation should keep the exact name of the credential, the track or specialization it shows, and each year's subjects and marks. We leave grades exactly as issued.

Upload the original scan and the translation together in the portal. Log in, open the Home tab, scroll to "Additional Info Required" and attach each document there; SLCC asks applicants not to send documents by email (source). Transfers from a US school also send a Transfer Form signed by their current DSO (source).

College credit from abroad, for F-1 students and residents alike

Foreign college or university work earns SLCC credit only through a comprehensive, course-by-course evaluation from TEC (formerly SpanTran) or WES, sent straight to SLCC, followed by SLCC's Request for Transcript Evaluation form (source, three steps). You must be admitted as a degree-seeking student with a declared program, because credit is applied to that program; upper-level and graduate courses often do not count, and SLCC does not evaluate work toward a degree you already hold in the same field. The report must show attendance dates and course levels.

SLCC's handout says all international transcripts and supporting documents must be in English (handout). TEC and WES set their own translation rules for what you send them; for WES, see translation for WES. When a department asks for syllabi or course outlines to decide specific credit, SLCC accepts your own translation with a copy of the original (source), so a professional translation of syllabi is optional.

Two points for residents and immigrants: general admission only asks for a state-recognized high school diploma or a GED (admissions FAQ), and SLCC does not say how a foreign diploma is handled there. Students whose foreign studies equal a US bachelor's degree or higher cannot receive Pell Grants (source).

Where SLCC's pages differ

Evaluation companies: the International Student Services FAQ says you may choose any evaluation company as long as you ask for a comprehensive report (ISS FAQ), while the Transcript Evaluation page and its handout accept only TEC and WES (Transcript Evaluation, handout). Funds: the page for applicants abroad asks for $28,974 for 2026-2027, while the transfer and change-of-status pages show $26,954 (abroad, transfer). We have not resolved either difference; confirm with International Student Services or the Transfer Evaluation Office before you pay for a report.

Documents applicants usually translate

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to SLCC

F-1 and other visa applicants upload the scan of the original and the certified translation in the SLCC Application Portal under "Additional Info Required" (source). Applicants transferring from a US school should send official transcripts for evaluation at least one month before classes start (source).

For college credit, the translation goes to TEC or WES with your records; the evaluation report then comes to SLCC from the service, not from you. Transcripts emailed by students are treated as unofficial (source).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For SLCC that means we translate your diploma, transcripts and syllabi; the course-by-course report for college credit comes from TEC or WES.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my high school diploma for SLCC?

SLCC says English translations may be required and does not name who must make them (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that.

Can I email my documents to International Student Services?

No. SLCC asks applicants to upload documents in the application portal's "Additional Info Required" section and not to send them by email (source).

Do I need TOEFL to be admitted?

No. SLCC does not require an English test for admission; all students take placement on arrival (source).

Which evaluation company should I use for foreign college credit?

The Transcript Evaluation Office lists TEC and WES as its approved services, course-by-course (source); the ISS FAQ says any company with a comprehensive report (FAQ). Ask before you order.

Can I translate my course syllabi myself?

Yes. For specific course credit, SLCC accepts your own translation of syllabi or course outlines with a copy of the original (source).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
