Rivier University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Rivier University requires transcripts from outside the United States, for first-year, transfer and graduate applicants, to be evaluated course by course by an agency that belongs to NACES or AICE, which sends the evaluation directly to the Office of Admissions. Rivier's evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and other NACES members, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. You get the translation first and send it to the agency with your records; Scholaro, which Rivier names with a discount, also accepts documents in their original language.
NACES or AICE

Rivier requirements at a glance
| What Rivier asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | Rivier publishes no translation rule; the evaluation agency you choose sets it (International admissions). |
| Who may translate | WES: a professional translator (WES). ECE: anyone, the applicant included (ECE). Scholaro: a professional or ATA-certified translator, or no translation at all (Scholaro). |
| Evaluation | Full course-by-course, by an agency approved by NACES or AICE, for undergraduate, transfer and graduate applicants (international, graduate). |
| Scholaro | Named on the international and graduate pages, with a discount for Rivier applicants (international, graduate). |
| Transfer credit | Credit from abroad needs a transfer evaluation by a recognized agency (catalog). |
| Delivery | The agency sends the evaluation directly to Rivier University Office of Admissions, 420 S. Main Street, Nashua, NH 03060 (catalog). Graduate applicants also have official transcripts sent by each institution (Graduate admissions). |
| Timing | Rolling admission; Rivier recommends applying 60 days before the term starts (International admissions). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. Rivier asks for a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member (international admissions), and WES, a NACES member, accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES translation rules); Scholaro, which Rivier names, accepts translations by a professional or ATA-certified translator, or documents in their original language (Scholaro terms, FAQ). Scholaro or a NACES member: what changes for the translation
Rivier accepts any NACES or AICE member and points applicants to Scholaro, with a Rivier discount (International admissions). Scholaro's rule is unusual: it accepts documents in their native language or with a certified translation, so an evaluation from Scholaro may not need a translation from you at all (Scholaro FAQ). If you send one, Scholaro may reject it unless it comes from a professional or ATA-certified translator (terms). Scholaro also sells an English translation as an add-on, and a cheaper "unofficial" option that produces no translation file (pricing).
NACES members ask for a translation before they evaluate. Choosing between them changes who may make it, not whether you need one: WES, for example, does not accept a translation you make yourself, while ECE does (WES, ECE).
What each evaluation agency asks for the translation
WES: exact, word-for-word, by a professional translator, uploaded in your WES account; no translations by applicants, and WES does not translate (WES). ECE: complete, literal and word-for-word, and you may prepare it yourself; ECE also sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally for its report only (ECE). IERF: typed, line-by-line, word-for-word, and it may require a professional translation (IERF). Educational Perspectives: a reputable translation agency or certified professional translator (EP). FCSA: a certified translation from a professional agency, except for documents in Spanish (FCSA).
AICE members publish their own translation rules as well; read the requirements page of the agency you pick before ordering the translation.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and diploma, for first-year applicants
- University transcripts for every year, for the course-by-course evaluation
- Degree certificate, for transfer and graduate applicants
- The grading scale printed on the transcript
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Rivier
Rivier does not receive the translation: it goes to the evaluation agency with your records (WES, for example, takes uploads in your WES account: WES: translation requirements). The agency sends the completed evaluation directly to the Office of Admissions in Nashua (catalog).
Your application itself is the Rivier online application for undergraduate first-year and transfer students, or for graduate F-1 students (International admissions).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Rivier that means we translate your transcripts and diplomas; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES or AICE member after the translation, and the agency sends it to Rivier.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Does Rivier need a translation of my foreign transcripts?
Rivier publishes no translation rule; it needs a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member (International admissions). Whether that agency needs a translation, and from whom, is its own rule: WES, for example, wants a professional one (WES: translation requirements).
Do I need a translation if I use Scholaro?
Not necessarily. Scholaro accepts documents in their native language or with a certified translation (Scholaro: FAQ); if you send a translation, it should come from a professional or ATA-certified translator (Scholaro: terms).
Which agencies does Rivier accept?
Any agency approved by NACES or AICE, with a full course-by-course evaluation; Rivier names Scholaro and offers a discount (International admissions).
Can I send the evaluation to Rivier myself?
No. The agency sends it directly to the Office of Admissions (Catalog: transfer credit).
Are the rules different for graduate applicants?
No. Graduate applicants also need a full course-by-course evaluation, Scholaro is named with the same discount, and official transcripts come directly from each institution (Graduate admissions).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
