MCPHS University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

MCPHS requires every applicant with academic credentials from outside the United States, US citizens and permanent residents included, to have them evaluated course by course by World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), and to have official transcripts sent to MCPHS by the school itself. MCPHS's evaluation agencies, WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The translation comes first, for the agency; the agency then evaluates your records and its report goes to MCPHS.

What MCPHS asks for
TranslationMCPHS publishes no translation rule for admission. The evaluation agency needs the translation before it can evaluate a record that is not in English.
Who may translateWES: a professional translator, not the applicant (WES). ECE: anyone, the applicant included, if the translation is complete and word-for-word (ECE).
EvaluationCourse-by-course from WES or ECE, for every applicant with credentials from outside the US, including US citizens and permanent residents (catalog, transfer).
TranscriptsYour school or counselor emails or mails official transcripts; MCPHS does not accept transcripts sent by the applicant (International undergraduate applicants), and photocopies are not accepted (catalog).
Graduate programsWES or ECE; the graduate international page adds that the evaluation must be submitted by WES. Physician Assistant Studies names WES alone; Acupuncture asks for any recognized credentialing service (graduate, PA, MAC).
CanadaNo WES or ECE evaluation for coursework from English-speaking Canadian universities and colleges (International graduate applicants).
Where to sendEmail admissions@mcphs.edu or mail the Admission Office, 179 Longwood Avenue, Boston; applicants through PharmCAS, PTCAS, OPTOMCAS, OTCAS or CASPA send documents to the CAS instead (International graduate applicants).
Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. MCPHS asks for a course-by-course evaluation from WES or ECE (transfer admission, catalog), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES translation rules); ECE accepts it too, and also lets applicants translate their own documents (ECE). What WES and ECE ask for the translation

WES wants a precise, word-for-word translation, with the words in the same order as the original, made by a professional translator, for example a certified translation agency; it does not accept translations by applicants, does not accept an English version issued by your school in place of a translation, and does not translate documents itself. You upload the translation in your WES account (WES, WES help).

ECE asks for a complete, literal, word-for-word translation in the same format as the original and lets applicants prepare it themselves. It also sells an $85 waiver under which ECE translates internally for the report; no translation document is delivered, so you cannot reuse it elsewhere (ECE). ECE's stricter rule for pharmacy licensing orders, where applicants may not translate their own documents, applies to orders for the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, not to an evaluation for MCPHS admission (ECE NABP).

Where MCPHS's pages differ

The catalog, the transfer page and the graduate page accept WES or ECE (catalog, transfer, graduate). The graduate international page names both and then says the completed evaluation must be submitted to MCPHS by WES; the Physician Assistant Studies and Optometry requirements name WES alone in places; the Acupuncture page asks for any recognized credentialing service.

We have not resolved these differences for you. If your program names WES, a WES evaluation meets every version; otherwise ask the Admission Office which agency your program takes before you order the translation and the evaluation.

Two deliveries from your school

MCPHS asks for the same transcripts twice: once to WES or ECE for the course-by-course evaluation, and once directly to MCPHS from the issuing school (graduate, transfer). The rule covers secondary schools, colleges and universities, and it applies to US citizens and permanent residents who studied abroad as much as to international students (catalog). Transcripts you send yourself and photocopies are refused, so plan the school's requests early; MCPHS's undergraduate priority dates are November 1, December 1 and February 1 (International undergraduate applicants).

Your translation does not replace either delivery. It goes to the evaluation agency with your copy of the record, so the agency can read it.

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to MCPHS

MCPHS does not receive the translation: it goes to WES, uploaded in your WES account (WES: translation requirements), or to ECE with your evaluation order (ECE: documentation requirements). The agency sends its course-by-course report to MCPHS, and your school sends official transcripts directly to the Admission Office (International undergraduate applicants, graduate).

Graduate applicants who apply through PharmCAS, PTCAS, OPTOMCAS, OTCAS or CASPA send their documents to that service, not to MCPHS (International graduate applicants).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For MCPHS that means we translate your transcripts and degree certificates; the course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from WES or ECE after the translation, and the official transcripts come from your school.

Frequently asked questions

Does MCPHS need a translation of my foreign transcripts?

MCPHS publishes no translation rule; it needs a WES or ECE course-by-course evaluation (Transfer applicants). WES needs a professional translation of records not in English before it can evaluate them (WES: translation requirements).

I am a US citizen with a degree from abroad. Do I need the evaluation?

Yes. The catalog applies the rule to all applicants with credentials from outside the US, including US citizens and permanent residents (MCPHS University Catalog 2026-2027 (PDF)).

Should I choose WES or ECE?

Most MCPHS pages accept either. The graduate international page says the evaluation must be submitted by WES, and Physician Assistant Studies names WES alone (graduate, PA); check your program's page.

Can I translate my documents myself?

Not for WES, which does not accept translations by applicants (WES). ECE allows it for its evaluations (ECE).

Can I send my transcripts to MCPHS myself?

No. Your school must email or mail them; MCPHS does not accept transcripts sent by the applicant (International undergraduate applicants).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
