Bunker Hill Community College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Bunker Hill Community College asks F-1 applicants to submit a translation from a translation agency with every document not in English, and each translated document must show the official translator's stamp or seal and signature. Bunker Hill Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Residents and other admitted students can prove a foreign high school diploma with a copy and a verified translation, but for transfer credit BHCC says a translation is not enough and requires a course-by-course evaluation, which we do not provide.
Translation agency
The translator's stamp or seal and signature on every translation.
Two routes for residents
Evaluation, or a copy plus a verified translation.
Not enough for credit
Transfer credit needs a course-by-course evaluation.
BHCC requirements at a glance
| What BHCC asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation (F-1) | Any document not in English needs a translation from a translation agency; every translated document must carry the official translator's stamp or seal and signature (source). |
| Copies or originals (F-1) | Copies of supporting documents are accepted; falsified or altered documents mean denial and no future applications (source). |
| Proof of high school (F-1) | Diploma or transcripts with the graduation date, Cambridge O/A levels or IGCSE/GCSE, a GED/HiSET, or 30 college credits; credits earned outside the US or Canada need a course-by-course evaluation (source). |
| Residents and other admitted students | A foreign high school diploma is proved with an evaluation from an accredited evaluation company, or with a copy of the original and a verified translation, submitted by mail or in person (source). |
| Transfer credit | A course-by-course evaluation from a NACES, AICE or AACRAO member; an official translation is not sufficient (source). |
| Placement exemption | Foreign college coursework exempts you from placement testing only with a course-by-course evaluation from a third-party service (source). |
| Deadlines (from abroad) | November 15 for spring, March 30 for summer I, July 15 for fall (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. BHCC's International Center asks for "a translation from a translation agency," with the stamp or seal and signature of the official translator on every translated document (admission requirements); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. F-1 applicants: an agency translation, stamped and signed
BHCC's International Center is specific about form. Under educational credentials it asks for proof of high school completion (a diploma or transcripts with the graduation date, Cambridge results with at least five O levels or three A levels at C or better, a GED or HiSET, or 30 college credits), and adds that documents not in English need a translation from a translation agency, with the stamp or seal and the signature of the official translator on every translated document (source). Before you upload, check that each translation you submit shows both.
Copies are accepted, but BHCC states a zero-tolerance policy: an application with falsified or altered documents is denied and later applications are not considered. Applicants still in their last year of high school send all their transcripts and a letter with the expected graduation date, then the diploma by the start of their first semester (source).
Residents and immigrants: a verified translation instead of an evaluation
Students admitted through the regular application, such as residents and immigrants who do not need an F-1, prove high school completion after acceptance. For foreign high school documents BHCC offers two routes: an official evaluation from an accredited evaluation company, or a copy of the original document with a verified translation showing that you finished high school (new student checklist). The page does not say who may make the translation.
This proof goes to Admissions by mail or in person, as step two of the checklist, before you log into myBHCC, apply for aid and complete placement (source).
Transfer credit and placement: here a translation is not enough
For credit earned at a university outside the US or Canada, BHCC requires a course-by-course evaluation from a credential evaluation service and states that an official translation of your transcripts is not sufficient (source). It names services its students often use (CED, ECE, The Evaluation Company and WES) and accepts NACES, AICE and AACRAO members. The evaluation goes to the Academic Records office and is reviewed when you attend Start Now; up to 45 transfer credits can count toward an associate degree, and most Canadian transcripts need no evaluation.
If you plan to move on to a four-year university, BHCC suggests asking that school which evaluation service it accepts before you order one (source). The same course-by-course evaluation is what exempts foreign college coursework from placement testing (source). Evaluation agencies set their own translation rules; see translation for credential evaluation.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school diploma or transcripts with the graduation date
- Cambridge O level, A level or IGCSE results
- University transcripts, if you use 30 college credits as proof of high school
- Bank statements and sponsor letters for the financial documents
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to BHCC
F-1 applicants answer "Yes" to the F-1 visa question at the start of the online application and upload the documents and translations there (source).
Admitted students who are not on an F-1 send proof of high school completion, with the copy of the original and its translation, to Admissions by mail or in person (source). Course-by-course evaluations for credit go to AcademicServices@bhcc.edu, by mail to the Academic Records Office, or to Student Central, room B202, Charlestown (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For BHCC that means we translate your diploma, transcripts and financial documents; the course-by-course evaluation required for transfer credit and placement exemptions comes from a credential evaluation service.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
What kind of translation does BHCC accept for the international application?
A translation from a translation agency, with the official translator's stamp or seal and signature on every translated document (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation.
I am a permanent resident with a foreign diploma. Do I need an evaluation?
No. BHCC accepts either an evaluation from an accredited evaluation company or a copy of the original and a verified translation showing high school completion (source).
Is a translation enough to get transfer credit at BHCC?
No. BHCC says an official translation is not sufficient and requires a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES, AICE or AACRAO member (source).
Can I send copies of my documents?
For the F-1 application, yes; copies of supporting documents are accepted, but falsified documents lead to denial (source).
Can my foreign college courses exempt me from placement tests?
Only with a course-by-course evaluation from a third-party education evaluation service (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
