Oral Roberts University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Oral Roberts University asks international applicants who finished high school abroad for a credential evaluation through an approved service, which its checklist links to IEE, plus a course-by-course evaluation if they earned 15 or more college credit hours abroad; graduate applicants need a course-by-course evaluation of translated transcripts from an agency such as SpanTran, Scholaro or ECE, or a similar service recommended by AICE or NACES. ORU's evaluation agencies, such as IEE, ECE and Scholaro, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. The translation comes first: the agency evaluates the translated transcript and sends the results directly to ORU.

What ORU asks for
TranslationORU's undergraduate checklist has no translation rule; the graduate checklist asks for an evaluation "of translated transcripts" without saying who translates (undergraduate, graduate).
Who may translateSet by the agency: IEE, a certified translator (IEE); ECE, anyone including the applicant (ECE); Scholaro, a professional or ATA-certified translator (Scholaro); SpanTran, an ATA-certified translator (SpanTran).
High school abroadRequest an International Credential Evaluation through an approved service, linked to IEE; ORU receives the results directly (International application steps).
College work abroad (undergraduate)A course-by-course evaluation from IEE if you have 15 or more college credit hours after high school (International application steps).
GraduateCourse-by-course for all coursework after secondary school, from SpanTran, Scholaro, ECE, or a similar service recommended by AICE or NACES; official transcripts also come directly from each university (Graduate application checklist).
GradesORU's Office of Admissions may assign letter-grade equivalents when it calculates a GPA from records issued abroad (Graduate application checklist).
Deadlines (international)Fall: July 1. Spring: November 15 (International application steps).
Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. ORU asks for an evaluation from IEE (international checklist) or from SpanTran, Scholaro, ECE or a similar service (graduate checklist), and IEE accepts a translation from a certified translator (IEE FAQ); ECE and Scholaro accept professional translations (ECE, Scholaro). SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, asks for a translator certified by ATA (The Evaluation Company (SpanTran): translations). Policy checked on October 13, 2026.

Undergraduate and graduate use different agencies

ORU's international checklist sends first-year applicants with a high school from outside the US to an approved evaluation service and links to an ORU page at IEE; ORU receives the results from the agency. Students who also took college classes abroad need a course-by-course report only once they have 15 or more credit hours after high school, again from IEE.

The graduate checklist lists other agencies: SpanTran, Scholaro, ECE, or a similar service recommended by AICE or NACES, with ORU-specific application links for the first three. It is also the only ORU page that mentions translation, describing the evaluation as one "of translated transcripts" for all coursework after secondary school. ORU adds that it may assign its own letter-grade equivalents when calculating a GPA from foreign records, so keep every grade and the grading scale exactly as printed.

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

IEE does not accept translations by the client, a notary public, or a translator who is not certified; translations from a university or the embassy in your home country are generally acceptable. IEE sells its own translation at $60 a page, which adds two business days to the evaluation (IEE FAQ, IEE translation). ECE accepts a complete, literal, word-for-word translation, including one you prepare yourself, and sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally for its report, without a translation you can reuse (ECE).

Scholaro accepts documents in their original language or with a certified translation, and may reject translations not made by a professional or ATA-certified translator; it also sells its own translation (Scholaro FAQ, terms, pricing). SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, requires an outside translator to be certified by the American Translators Association, or its in-house translation ordered after the application (The Evaluation Company (SpanTran): translations); see the ATA section below.

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to ORU

ORU does not receive the translation directly: it goes to the evaluation agency with your records, and the agency sends its results to ORU (International application steps). Graduate applicants also have each university send official transcripts directly to ORU (Graduate application checklist).

Other documents, such as the passport page and financial forms, are attached in the ORU application portal or the Common App (International application steps).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English: Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian at $34.95 per page, and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian at $44.95 per page.

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for ORU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office). We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them. For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For ORU that means we translate your school and university records; the evaluation is ordered by you from IEE, or for graduate study from SpanTran, Scholaro or ECE, after the translation, and the agency sends the results to ORU.

Frequently asked questions

Does ORU need a translation of my foreign transcripts?

ORU publishes no translation rule of its own. Its graduate checklist asks for an evaluation of translated transcripts (Graduate application checklist), and IEE, used for undergraduates, requires a certified translator (IEE: FAQ (translations)).

Which agency evaluates my high school diploma for ORU?

The international checklist links to IEE as the approved service, and ORU receives the results directly (International application steps).

I took a few college classes abroad. Do I need a course-by-course evaluation?

Only if you have 15 or more college credit hours after high school (International application steps).

Can Scholaro evaluate my transcripts without a translation?

Scholaro says it accepts documents in their original language or with a certified translation (Scholaro: FAQ). ORU's graduate checklist still describes an evaluation of translated transcripts (Graduate application checklist).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for a SpanTran evaluation?

Yes, on request. Ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for a SpanTran evaluation for ORU and needs a translator individually certified by ATA. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
