Ohlone College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Ohlone College's procedure for international students says all documentation must be professionally translated into English; applicants upload copies of their academic records, and translated transcripts are requested when the student arrives. Ohlone College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Credit for foreign college courses also needs a course-by-course evaluation (Ohlone recommends WES) reviewed with a counselor, which we do not provide.
Professionally translated
Board procedure AP 5012 sets the rule.
Translations on arrival
Copies to apply; translated transcripts when you arrive.
Counselor, by appointment
Credit needs translation, course descriptions and WES or NACES.
Ohlone requirements at a glance
| What Ohlone asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | All documentation must be professionally translated into English (AP 5012). |
| Who may translate | A professional translator or service (source). |
| To apply (F-1) | Copies of academic records: transcripts, proof of graduation from high school or university, or other documents depending on your situation (source). |
| When translations are due | The application form says transcripts translated into English will be requested when the student arrives (application). |
| Foreign college credit | Official transcripts with English translation, course descriptions in English and a course-by-course evaluation, submitted to a counselor by appointment; WES recommended, other NACES members reviewed (source). |
| Transfer limits | Foreign transcripts cannot count toward IGETC (other than waiving the foreign language requirement) or CSU General Education certification (source). |
| Deadlines (F-1) | November 15 for spring, June 15 for fall, April 15 for the summer English Language Institute; a reply usually within 2 weeks (application, admissions). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. Ohlone's Administrative Procedure 5012 states that all documentation must be "professionally translated into English" (AP 5012); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is a professional translation. A board rule: professionally translated
Ohlone's translation rule is written into the college's own administrative procedures. AP 5012, the procedure for international students adopted in November 2013, ends with a single sentence: all documentation must be professionally translated into English (AP 5012). The same procedure says that students who enter the US on an Ohlone I-20 must attend Ohlone for at least one semester before transferring.
The application is lighter. To apply, you upload a copy of the passport page, copies of your academic records (transcripts or proof of graduation from high school or university), a bank document and, if someone sponsors you, the financial affidavit (international admissions). The PDF application adds that transcripts translated into English will be requested when the student arrives (application form), so plan to have the professional translation ready before you travel, not only before you apply.
Foreign college credit: through a counselor
To receive credit for university courses taken abroad, you bring three things to an Ohlone counselor, by appointment: official transcripts including an English translation, detailed course descriptions (or the college catalog) in English, and an official course-by-course evaluation showing semester units, letter grades and lower or upper division for each course (foreign transcript evaluation). Ohlone recommends World Education Services and will review evaluations from other NACES members, deciding itself whether they are acceptable.
If you plan to transfer to a California university, Ohlone notes that the evaluation is advisory: foreign transcripts cannot be used toward IGETC (except to waive the foreign language requirement) or CSU General Education certification, and the receiving university does its own evaluation (source). WES asks for its own translation format; see translation for WES.
Where Ohlone's pages differ
Ohlone's international admissions page tells applicants to upload their documents in the online International Student Application (admissions page), while the 2025 PDF application asks applicants to submit applications by email to international@ohlone.edu (PDF application). We have not resolved that difference; the International Programs office can confirm which route it prefers.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts and diploma or certificate of completion
- University transcripts and degree certificate
- Course descriptions or the college catalog, for credit
- Bank statement or bank letter showing the required funds
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Ohlone
F-1 applicants upload copies of their records with the online International Student Application; admitted students receive an acceptance packet with the I-20, and the English translations of transcripts are requested on arrival (source, application).
For credit, the translated transcripts, course descriptions and evaluation are reviewed at a counselor appointment, together with the Evaluation Specialist or the department (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Ohlone that means we translate your transcripts, diplomas and bank documents; the course-by-course evaluation required for credit comes from WES or another NACES member.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Can a professional translation service translate my documents for Ohlone?
Yes. Ohlone's AP 5012 requires all documentation to be professionally translated into English (source); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
Do I need the translations to apply, or later?
To apply you upload copies of your records; Ohlone's application form says translated transcripts will be requested when you arrive (source).
How do I get credit for courses I took at a university abroad?
Book a counselor appointment and bring official transcripts with an English translation, English course descriptions and a course-by-course evaluation (source).
Which evaluation service does Ohlone recommend?
World Education Services; Ohlone also reviews evaluations from other NACES members (source).
Will my foreign courses count toward IGETC or CSU GE?
No, except that they can waive the IGETC foreign language requirement (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
