How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

Loyola University Chicago asks international first-year applicants to send official transcripts from every secondary school and, if necessary, a translated copy in English; its page does not say who must make the translation.

Loyola University Chicago accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

College work abroad is read through an evaluation instead: international transfers need a Course-by-Course or Catalog Match evaluation, and graduate and professional applicants need a NACES evaluation sent by the agency, which we do not provide.

Loyola at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Loyola's international undergraduate page asks for "a translated copy in English" when needed and does not restrict who makes it (international students), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about Loyola

Translated copy

First-year records in another language need an English copy.

Catalog Match for credit

Transfers must submit one to get credit for courses abroad.

NACES, no waiver

Graduate review waits for the agency's report.

Loyola requirements in detail

Translation (first-year)

Official transcripts from every secondary school and, if necessary, a translated copy in English (International students (Undergraduate Admission, luc.edu)).

Who may translate

Not stated; the page names no translator.

Records to send

If you are in your final year of high school, records for the previous three completed years; school officials may email them to internationaladmission@luc.edu (International students (Undergraduate Admission, luc.edu)).

Transfer applicants

A Course-by-Course or a Catalog Match evaluation to complete the application; a Catalog Match is required to receive credit for courses taken abroad (Transfer students (Undergraduate Admission)).

Graduate and professional

An evaluation from a NACES member, sent by the agency to gradapp@luc.edu with the original official transcripts; it cannot be waived and is needed before review (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)).

Unofficial records

Graduate: not accepted from international applicants (Graduate admission process). Transfer: may be accepted for conditional admission if received before June 1 (fall) or December 1 (spring) (Transfer students (Undergraduate Admission)).

First-year deadlines

Priority deadline December 1 for fall and November 1 for spring; later applications considered while space remains (International students (Undergraduate Admission, luc.edu)).

Three levels, three different documents

For a first-year applicant, Loyola reads the secondary school record itself.

Your school sends the official transcript, by email to internationaladmission@luc.edu or by mail, and you add an English translated copy if the record is in another language (International students (Undergraduate Admission, luc.edu)).

There is no evaluation step for high school, so the translation is the document the admission counselor reads: course names, marks and the grading scale as printed.

For a transfer applicant with college work abroad, the evaluation replaces that reading.

Loyola asks for a Course-by-Course or a Catalog Match evaluation to complete the application, and only a Catalog Match evaluation earns credit for courses taken abroad once you enroll (Transfer students (Undergraduate Admission)).

If you are fairly sure you will enroll, ordering the Catalog Match first may save a second report.

The transfer page does not name the agency; Loyola's graduate requirements page asks School of Continuing & Professional Studies undergraduate applicants for a catalog match report from Educational Perspectives (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)).

For graduate and professional programs, a NACES evaluation is mandatory, cannot be waived, and your application is not reviewed until the agency sends it, together with your original official transcripts, to Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management at gradapp@luc.edu (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)). Copies of an evaluation you already hold are not accepted.

Which graduate report to order

Most graduate applicants should request a General Evaluation with Grade Average.

Quinlan School of Business programs, the Master of Education in Elementary or Secondary Education and the Pharmacovigilance Certificate need a Detailed Report or a Course-by-Course evaluation.

The Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing accepts a CGFNS evaluation, LLM and MJ applicants to the School of Law may use LSAC, and School of Continuing & Professional Studies graduate programs want a report with a grade average (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)).

The report must show at least the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree, and the degree must already be awarded.

Loyola treats a three-year undergraduate degree from a country in the Bologna Process as equivalent to a US bachelor's, but you still need the evaluation (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

Loyola offers a 10% discount with SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, through a custom application (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)).

TEC says an outside translator must be certified by the American Translators Association, or you can order its own translation after the evaluation application is complete (TEC); see the ATA section below.

Other NACES members set their own rules: WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator and refuses translations by applicants (WES); ECE accepts any complete, word-for-word translation, including your own, and sells an $85 waiver under which it translates for its report only (ECE); Educational Perspectives accepts translations from a reputable translation agency or a certified, professional translator (Educational Perspectives).

Need a certified translation for Loyola?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts for the last three completed years
  • National exam results and leaving certificates
  • University transcripts and mark sheets, for the Catalog Match or NACES evaluation
  • Degree certificates and diplomas showing the degree awarded

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Loyola

  • First-year applicants apply through the Common Application or Loyola's own application; your school sends the official transcript by email to internationaladmission@luc.edu or by mail, and you track what has arrived on your student portal checklist.

The page does not say how the translated copy should be sent, so ask internationaladmission@luc.edu before you submit it (International students (Undergraduate Admission, luc.edu)).

  • Transfer and graduate applicants send the translation to the evaluation agency with their records; the agency sends its report to Loyola (graduate requirements, transfer).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Loyola, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Loyola that means we translate your secondary and university records; the Catalog Match, course-by-course or NACES graduate evaluation is ordered by you from the agency after the translation.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Who has to translate my high school transcript for Loyola?

Loyola asks for a translated copy in English when needed and does not name a translator (International students (Undergraduate Admission, luc.edu)). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of copy.

Which evaluation do I need as an international transfer?

A Course-by-Course or Catalog Match evaluation to complete the application, and a Catalog Match to receive credit for courses abroad if you enroll (Transfer students (Undergraduate Admission)).

Can I send Loyola a copy of an evaluation I already have?

Not for graduate admission: the evaluation must come from the NACES member directly to gradapp@luc.edu, and copies are not accepted (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)).

Do I need an evaluation if I have a US master's degree?

No evaluation is needed for the foreign undergraduate degree if your graduate degree is from a regionally accredited US institution, but the transcripts are still required (International applicant requirements (Graduate & Professional Enrollment Management)).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for Loyola?

Yes, on request, for example if you use SpanTran (The Evaluation Company) for your Loyola evaluation. Ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for a TEC evaluation for Loyola and needs a translator individually certified by ATA. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
