Kansas State University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Kansas State University asks international undergraduates whose transcripts are not in English for an English translation in addition to a copy in the original language, and its Graduate School asks for documents in English or certified translations to English; neither says who must translate. Kansas State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. K-State does not ask for an outside credential evaluation: its admissions office and academic units review foreign records and transfer credit themselves.

Kansas State University: requirements for documents in another language
What K-State asks for
Translation, undergraduateAn English translation in addition to a copy in the original language, for every transcript not in English (International undergraduate: submit transcripts).
Translation, graduateAll documents in English or certified translations to English, uploaded with transcripts and degree certificates (Graduate School: application process).
Who may translateNot stated at either level.
What to sendTranscripts for all previous coursework: secondary school, and any university, college, vocational, community college or technical study; missing records can lead to denial or dismissal (International undergraduate: submit transcripts).
EvaluationNo evaluation agency is mentioned; K-State reviews records itself, in about two weeks for undergraduates.
Where to sendUndergraduates email PDF copies to international@k-state.edu (step-by-step guide); graduate applicants upload in the application and must not email transcripts (Graduate School: application process).
Official recordsTransfer credit is reviewed only after you apply, pay the fee and official transcripts arrive (transfer credit policy); the Graduate School requests official copies later or with the offer.
Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. K-State's international transcript page asks for "an English translation in addition to a copy in the original language" (transcripts) and the Graduate School for "certified translations to English" (graduate application process), without limiting who translates; a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. Two wordings: "an English translation" and "certified translations"

The undergraduate rule is short. If your transcripts are not in English, you provide an English translation together with a copy in the original language, for every school you attended, including vocational and technical programs (transcripts). The Graduate School adds one word: documents must be in English or "certified translations to English", uploaded next to the transcripts and degree certificates (graduate application).

A certified translation satisfies both wordings, so the same translation can serve an undergraduate application now and a graduate one later. Each one is delivered with the translator's signed certification, and you keep the original-language copy beside it, which K-State asks for at both levels.

No evaluation agency: K-State reads the records itself

K-State does not send international applicants to WES or another agency. Undergraduates email PDF copies of their materials to international@k-state.edu, and the office says its evaluation takes about two weeks, with requests for missing items by email (step-by-step guide). For credit, the Office of Recruitment and Admissions collects course materials and forwards them to the academic units, which decide equivalency; the Transfer Equivalency Tool includes international courses already reviewed, and if your school or course is not listed you send the syllabus to transferevaluation@k-state.edu.

Two limits are written into the transfer credit policy: English language courses taken at international schools will generally not transfer, and transfer grades do not enter your K-State GPA. Students with 24 or more college credit hours are transfer applicants and do not need to send high school transcripts (International undergraduate: submit transcripts).

Graduate School: copies now, and room for foreign degrees

Graduate applicants, including current K-State students, upload copies of transcripts, which may be unofficial; official copies are requested later or with an admission offer (Graduate School: application process). The Graduate Handbook accepts three-year Bologna bachelor's degrees as comparable to a K-State bachelor's, and lists "provisional" admission for cases where the transcript evaluation is uncertain, as is sometimes the case with international students.

Graduate programs review your credentials and recommend admission (handbook), and some set earlier deadlines for international applicants (Graduate School: application process); have the translation ready when you start the application.

Uploading the translation to K-State

Undergraduates apply at apply.k-state.edu or through the Common App, then email PDF copies of transcripts, translations and other materials to international@k-state.edu (International undergraduate: step-by-step guide). Transcripts from US colleges are sent by the registrar directly to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions in Anderson Hall (International undergraduate: submit transcripts).

Graduate applicants upload the transcripts, degree certificates and certified translations in the online application at gradapply.ksu.edu and follow its prompts (Graduate School: application process).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For K-State that means we translate your records and syllabi; the equivalency decisions come from K-State's admissions office and academic units.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my transcripts for K-State?

K-State asks for an English translation (undergraduate) or a certified translation (graduate) and does not say who must make it (undergraduate, graduate). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I still send the original-language transcript?

Yes. The undergraduate rule asks for the translation in addition to a copy in the original language (International undergraduate: submit transcripts).

Do I need a WES evaluation for K-State?

K-State's international admission pages do not ask for one; the university reviews records itself.

Will my English courses from abroad transfer?

Generally not; the transfer credit policy excludes English language courses from international schools.

Is my three-year European bachelor's enough for graduate study?

The Graduate Handbook accepts three-year Bologna bachelor's degrees.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
