University of Kansas: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
The University of Kansas asks international applicants to send their secondary and university records with an English translation when they are not in English; its country-by-country list and its graduate requirements name the documents but not who must translate them. University of Kansas accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. KU does not ask for an outside credential evaluation: International Admissions converts undergraduate grades to the 4.0 scale and Graduate Admissions checks degree equivalency itself, so what we translate is what KU reads.
Country by country
KU lists the documents and attestation each school system needs.
No evaluation agency
KU converts foreign grades to its 4.0 scale itself.
Originals on arrival
Chinese and Saudi students show originals with the translation.
KU requirements at a glance
| What KU asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | An English translation for records not in English. It appears in the country rows of KU's list, e.g. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Japan, Korea, Vietnam (International admission requirements by country); graduate transcripts likewise (graduate). |
| Who may translate | Not stated at either level. The rule names the document, not the translator. |
| Copies or originals | Depends on the country: original or attested copy for most of Latin America, certified copies for Brazil, school-attested sealed copies for China and Hong Kong, Ministry-attested certificates for Saudi Arabia (International admission requirements by country). |
| Evaluation | None for undergraduates; International Admissions converts grades to the 4.0 system (International admission requirements by country). Graduate Admissions does not require one either (graduate FAQ). |
| Official records, undergraduate | Unofficial transcripts are accepted with the application; official ones must reach KU before you enroll in an academic program (how to apply). |
| Official records, graduate | Scans for review; an official final transcript, with the school's stamp or seal and the degree and conferral date, before your second semester (Graduate admissions: international requirements). |
| Transfer credit | An official record sent directly from each school; KU's International Transfer Coordinator evaluates it after admission (Transfer of international credits). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. KU's country requirements ask for records "with English translation" (admission requirements by country) and Graduate Admissions asks that non-English transcripts be accompanied by English translations (graduate international requirements); neither limits who translates, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. KU's country list decides what you translate
Instead of one general rule, KU International Admissions publishes a row for each country or curriculum with the documents it wants, the attestation they need and the average it looks for. For Argentina it asks for the original or an attested copy of the transcripts and the Bachiller with English translation and a 6.5 average on the 10-point scale; for Colombia the Bachillerato or Título de Bachiller Académico; for Peru the transcripts and the Bachillerato; for Vietnam the attested senior high school certificate and record of grades. KU reads the grade average from those documents and converts it to the 4.0 system itself.
Because no evaluation agency sits between you and KU, the translation is what the admission evaluator reads. Every subject, year and mark of the transcript, and the exact name of the diploma, should appear in it; we keep the original title of the credential next to its English rendering so it can be matched with KU's row for your country.
Some rows ask for more than a translation. Chinese applicants send school-attested, sealed transcripts for grades 9 to 12, the Huikao and an attested graduation certificate, and on arrival present the original certificate and grade 12 transcript in Chinese with an English translation before they may enroll. Saudi applicants send leaving certificates attested by the Ministry of Education and later present the original with an English translation (International admission requirements by country). The attestation comes from the school or ministry; we translate the attested document.
Graduate admission: translations now, official transcript by the second semester
For graduate programs you may attach scans of your official transcripts and of your degree certificate; transcripts in another language must be accompanied with English translations, and some departments want official transcripts at application (Graduate admissions: international requirements). After you accept an offer, Graduate Admissions must receive an official, final transcript before your second semester, or you cannot enroll for it. Foreign transcripts must show the coursework, the degree and its conferral date, and carry the school's stamp or seal; a printout from a student portal is not official.
Graduate Admissions verifies equivalency and, when the program uses a GPA, converts it to the US 4-point scale itself; a professional evaluation is welcome but not required (graduate FAQ). Two exceptions are written into the FAQ: a Nigerian Higher National Diploma is considered equivalent to a bachelor's only when WES or another NACES member says so, and a three-year Indian bachelor's from a NAAC "A" institution with a first or honors class is generally accepted, case by case. Degrees from China need a CSSD verification report.
Transfer credit from outside the US
For admission, international transfer applicants may submit unofficial transcripts (Apply to KU: international undergraduate). For credit, the rule is stricter: an official record of completion and grades must be sent directly to KU from each school, and the school must be recognized by its Ministry of Education (Transfer of international credits). After admission, KU's International Transfer Coordinator evaluates the foreign transcript; the CredTran database shows courses already evaluated, but only as a guide.
Transfer applicants with more than 24 transferable hours do not need to supply secondary school credentials, so for them the university transcripts and their translations are the core of the file.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts for the last three years, or state exam results
- The graduation certificate named in KU's row for your country (Bachiller, Bachillerato, Huikao, Tawjihiyya...)
- University transcripts or mark sheets and the degree certificate
- Ministry-attested certificates, where your country row requires them
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to KU
Undergraduates apply through KU's international online application and attach unofficial records with their translations; official records must reach KU before enrollment (how to apply).
Graduate applicants attach scanned transcripts, degree certificate and translations in the online application; official final transcripts are mailed to Graduate Admissions, 1502 Iowa St., Lawrence, by the issuing institution (Graduate admissions: international requirements).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For KU that means we translate your records; attested or sealed copies, CSSD verification and official transcripts sent by the school come from the school or the issuing body.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my documents for KU?
KU asks for an English translation and does not say who must make it (country requirements, graduate). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.
Do I need WES or another evaluation for KU?
No for undergraduates, whose grades KU converts itself, and no for graduate applicants (graduate FAQ), except holders of a Nigerian HND, who need a WES or NACES report.
Does every country need a translation?
KU's list asks for one in the rows of non-English school systems such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Japan, Korea or Taiwan; check the row for your country.
When does KU need my official graduate transcript?
Before your second semester of enrollment; without it you cannot enroll for that semester (Graduate admissions: international requirements).
I studied in China. What else do I need?
Undergraduates send school-attested sealed records and show the originals with an English translation on arrival (International admission requirements by country); graduate applicants need a CSSD verification report (graduate).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
