Auburn University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Auburn's Graduate School asks international applicants for each transcript and final diploma in the original language, accompanied by a certified English translation of each document, and does not say who has to translate. Auburn University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Undergraduates instead need their foreign transcripts evaluated by an independent credentials evaluator, with WES preferred; that evaluation is not something we provide.

Does it accept eVerbary?Yes. The Graduate School's international instructions ask for a certified English translation of each transcript and diploma without restricting who makes it, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that rule. Undergraduates: the evaluator, not Auburn, reads your translation

Auburn's undergraduate office does not take foreign transcripts as they are. Every international freshman and transfer applicant submits official evaluated transcripts, done by an independent credentials evaluator that reports a GPA on the US scale, either document-by-document or course-by-course. Auburn strongly encourages a NACES member and lists WES, ECE, Josef Silny, IERF, International Academic Credential Evaluators, IEE and The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran), naming WES as its preferred evaluator (International undergraduate admissions).

Because the agency receives your documents, its rules on translation are the ones that apply to you. WES, for example, asks for a word-for-word translation from a professional service; see translation for WES. Freshmen need the evaluated high school transcript; transfers with 24 or more college hours need evaluated college transcripts and a 2.5 GPA (2.8 for the College of Architecture). Applicants with lower English scores can go through Auburn Global.

Graduate School: original plus certified English, document by document

The Graduate School asks international applicants to list every post-secondary institution attended and to provide the official transcript in its original language and the final diploma or certificate, each accompanied by a certified English translation. It does its own equivalency review: credential evaluators in the Graduate School decide whether your degree equals a four-year US bachelor's, so no outside evaluation is requested at this level.

Before registration, official copies of all transcripts must be sent directly to 106 Hargis Hall. The Official Statement of Finances has to be backed by certified evidence of your sponsor's means before the admission letter and I-20 are released, and English scores (TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo) must come from the testing service (Graduate School: international application instructions).

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Auburn

Graduate applicants upload the original-language transcript, the diploma and their certified English translations with the online application, then have official transcripts sent to The Graduate School, 106 Hargis Hall, before registration (Graduate School: international application instructions).

Undergraduates send documents and translations to the evaluator they choose; the evaluated transcript is what goes to Auburn (International undergraduate admissions).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Auburn that means we translate your transcripts and diplomas; the independent evaluation undergraduates need comes from an evaluation agency such as WES.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my documents for the Auburn Graduate School?

The Graduate School asks for a certified English translation of each transcript and diploma and does not say who makes it. A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I need WES to apply to Auburn as an undergraduate?

You need an evaluation from an independent credentials evaluator with a GPA on the US scale. WES is Auburn's preferred evaluator, and any NACES member is strongly encouraged (International undergraduate admissions).

Does the Graduate School want a WES evaluation?

It does not ask for one. Its own credential evaluators determine degree equivalency (Graduate School: international application instructions).

Do I translate my diploma as well as my transcript?

For graduate admission, yes: the final diploma or certificate needs its own certified English translation (Graduate School: how to apply).

What are the international undergraduate deadlines?

Freshmen apply by February 1 for summer or fall and November 1 for spring; transfers by May 1, July 1 or November 1 (International undergraduate admissions).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
