How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Alamo Colleges District (Northwest Vista, Palo Alto, St. Philip's, San Antonio College and Northeast Lakeview) requires every foreign credential to be evaluated by a NACES or AACRAO member: a general evaluation for admission and a course-by-course one to use foreign college credit.
Alamo Colleges' evaluation agencies, such as WES, ECE and FCSA, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
The district itself notes that some evaluation services require a translation from a translation service; the translation comes first, and the evaluation report is something we do not produce.

Worth knowing about Alamo Colleges

General to be admitted; course-by-course for credit.
Sealed, to your college
Evaluation and transcript go to that college's international office.
Alamo Colleges requirements in detail
Translation
No district rule of its own; the district notes that some evaluation services require translation from a translation service (How to apply: international students, transcript evaluations).
Who may translate
Set by the evaluation agency you choose; see "What the evaluation agencies ask for the translation" below.
Evaluation
All foreign credentials, by a NACES or AACRAO member. Admission: a general evaluation stating equivalence to a US high school, college or university (How to apply: international students).
Transfer credit
A course-by-course evaluation, for foreign college credit to count toward a program (International students: transcript evaluations).
How it reaches the college
Evaluation and official transcript in original sealed envelopes, mailed to the international student services office of your college; the original transcript can be marked to be returned to you.
The college accepts only evaluations sent directly by the NACES member (How to apply: international students, International students: transcript evaluations).
San Antonio College
Its sheet says foreign transcripts must be evaluated and translated by a professional agency that meets NACES quality guidelines; records also accepted at sac-transcripts@alamo.edu (SAC sheet).
Cost
Paid by the applicant, for both evaluation and translation (San Antonio College: foreign transcript evaluation vs. translation).
What the evaluation agencies ask for the translation
Alamo Colleges accepts any NACES member, so the translation rule is the one of the agency you choose.
WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator, uploaded in your WES account, and does not accept translations made by applicants.
ECE wants a complete, literal, word-for-word translation in the same format; it lets applicants translate their own documents and sells an $85 waiver under which it translates internally for its report, without giving you a translation you can reuse.
FCSA, in Austin, accepts certified translations from most professional agencies and lets you or a relative translate Spanish documents.
IERF wants a literal, word-for-word translation in the same format as the original and may ask for a professional one.
Educational Perspectives accepts a reputable translation agency or a certified professional translator, and also translates in-house.
Check your agency's own page before you order, because some NACES members accept only a translator certified by ATA.
Where Alamo Colleges' pages differ
The district's international how-to-apply page and its transcript evaluations page treat the translation as something an evaluation service may require from a translation service.
San Antonio College's evaluation vs. translation sheet says all foreign transcripts must be "evaluated and translated by a professional agency" that meets NACES quality guidelines, and asks for a general evaluation plus a translation for high school records.
The pages also differ on the evaluator: the how-to-apply page accepts NACES or AACRAO members, while the transcript evaluations page says the college accepts evaluations sent directly by the NACES member.
We have not resolved these differences; if you apply to San Antonio College, ask its International Student Services office whether it wants the translation to come from the evaluation agency.
One district, five colleges
You apply through Apply Texas to one college and then file the International Student Supplemental Application for the I-20; the evaluation and official transcript go to that college's international office: Northwest Vista (3535 N. Ellison Drive), Palo Alto (Palomino Center, Room 103), San Antonio College (Box 709) or St. Philip's (Box 333) (How to apply: international students).
San Antonio College's records office also takes evaluations electronically at sac-transcripts@alamo.edu and suggests a general evaluation for high school records and a course-by-course one for college records (San Antonio College: transcripts and enrollment verification).
Students who are not F-1 follow the same idea: Northeast Lakeview, for example, says foreign transcripts must be evaluated before they are submitted and points to the NACES member list (Northeast Lakeview College: enrollment steps).
San Antonio College adds that every evaluation is subject to its review and that foreign credit is not guaranteed (San Antonio College: foreign transcript evaluation vs. translation).
Need a certified translation for Alamo Colleges?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- Secondary school transcripts and the diploma or leaving certificate, for a general evaluation
- College or university transcripts, for a course-by-course evaluation
- Degree certificates from the college or university
- Any other record your evaluation agency asks for
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Alamo Colleges
The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your documents (WES, for example, takes uploads in your WES account: WES: translation requirements).
The agency then sends its evaluation directly to your Alamo college, in a sealed envelope with the official transcript (How to apply: international students).
At San Antonio College, evaluations can also be mailed to Admissions and Records, Box 687, or sent electronically to sac-transcripts@alamo.edu (San Antonio College: foreign transcript evaluation vs. translation).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Alamo Colleges that means we translate your records; the general or course-by-course evaluation comes from a NACES or AACRAO member, ordered by you after the translation.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Do the Alamo Colleges need a translation or an evaluation?
An evaluation of every foreign credential by a NACES or AACRAO member (How to apply: international students). The district notes that some evaluation services require a translation from a translation service.
Which evaluation do I need: general or course-by-course?
A general evaluation to be admitted; a course-by-course one if you want foreign college credit to count toward a program (International students: transcript evaluations).
Can I hand in the evaluation myself?
The college accepts only evaluations sent directly by the NACES member; evaluations and official transcripts go in original sealed envelopes (International students: transcript evaluations, How to apply: international students).
Does San Antonio College want the agency to translate?
Its sheet says foreign transcripts must be evaluated and translated by a professional agency meeting NACES guidelines (San Antonio College: foreign transcript evaluation vs. translation), while the district pages refer to translation services. Ask SAC International Student Services before ordering.
Who pays for the evaluation and translation?
The applicant (San Antonio College: foreign transcript evaluation vs. translation).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
