The pink book, and Buddhist Era dates
Thai childhood immunisation is recorded in the maternal and child health handbook — the pink book — issued at the hospital or health centre, with each dose dated and stamped.
Every date in it is in the Buddhist Era, 543 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar, so a dose recorded in B.E. 2545 was given in 2002. Only the year shifts, and we convert each date and show both, because a year out can make a dose look invalid for age.
BCG, and the Thai schedule
Thailand gives BCG at birth and Japanese encephalitis as a routine childhood vaccine, neither of them routine in the United States, and uses combination products with Thai names.
We give the Thai entry, the standard English designation and the date. A US reader comparing against a US schedule sees unfamiliar vaccines and apparent gaps that are not gaps.
