The notary, and the register
A Russian power of attorney (doverennost) for most significant acts must be notarised, and Russia maintains a public register of notarial acts in which powers and their revocations are recorded and can be checked online.
So a Russian power can be verified against the register, and a revocation takes effect from its entry. That is unusually transparent and it is worth telling a reader about.
The term, and what happens without one
A Russian power may state a term of any length, and where no term is stated it is valid for one year from execution — a default a US reader will not know and which silently expires the instrument.
A power also lapses on the death of either party. We translate the date and the term clause prominently, because the absence of a term is itself a term.
Peredoveriye, and the delegation
An attorney may delegate by peredoveriye only where the power expressly permits it, and the delegation must itself be notarised and notified to the principal.
So a chain of Russian powers requires the permission in the first one, and a delegation without it is void. We translate the permission clause exactly.
Powers granted abroad, and the apostille
A power granted in the United States for use in Russia is signed before a US notary and apostilled, and Russia remains a party to the Convention so consular legalisation is not required.
