The Nikah Nama and the computerised certificate

Pakistan produces two documents and they do different jobs. The Nikah Nama is the marriage contract itself, in Urdu, signed at the marriage. The computerised Marriage Registration Certificate is the civil certificate, and it is what visa and immigration processes ask for.

A point people get wrong: NADRA does not issue the certificate. It runs the national civil registry database; the union council or equivalent local authority issues the certificate after verifying against it. If you hold only the Nikah Nama, obtain the computerised certificate before paying to translate the wrong document — see our Pakistani birth certificate page.

Urdu, and the clauses that matter

A Nikah Nama is a contract with numbered clauses — the dower (mehr), any conditions agreed, and the delegated right of divorce — and it is translated in full. Leaving a clause out misrepresents the document, and those clauses are frequently the part an office or a court is reading.

Urdu names romanise several ways and a passport, an older document and a foreign record commonly disagree; we follow the passport and note real differences. See our Urdu page.

What USCIS requires

Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.

State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.

How it works

Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.

A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.

Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.

Certified vs. standard translation

A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where a page is up to 250 words.

A standard translation is for business or personal use where certification is not needed, such as CVs, client intake forms or marketing material, and is billed at the same $24.95 per page of up to 250 words.

Frequently asked questions

Does NADRA issue my marriage certificate?

No. NADRA runs the database; the union council or local authority issues the certificate after verifying against it. That is worth knowing before you go to the wrong office.

I only have the Nikah Nama.

It is the marriage contract and we translate it, but visa and immigration processes generally ask for the computerised registration certificate. Get that before ordering.

Are the dower and conditions translated?

Yes, every clause. They are frequently the part being read.

Ready to get started?

Upload your documents and receive your certified translation, typically within 24 hours.
