How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026
William & Mary asks international applicants for secondary records sent by the school from ninth grade on, and says certified non-English transcripts or grade reports should come with official, literal (not interpretive) translations, which you may get from a translation service.
William & Mary accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Students with a thirteenth year or university study also submit translated syllabi for possible credit, and may later be asked for a WES evaluation, which we do not provide.
W&M at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
W&M's international application process says non-English records should be accompanied by official, literal translations and that you can use a translation service (application process); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. W&M requirements in detail
Translation
Certified non-English transcripts or grade reports should be accompanied by official (literal, not interpretive) translations (International applicants: application process).
Who may translate
A translation service; W&M names its International Education Evaluations (IEE) page as one resource (International applicants: application process).
Which records
All secondary schools and universities attended, from the ninth-grade year through senior high school, sent directly by the school with the Secondary School Report (International applicants: application process).
Evaluation for admission
Not required; W&M reads the records and translations (International applicants: application process).
Credit for a 13th year or university study
Translated syllabi for each course, submitted with the application; after deciding to enroll, you may be asked to send credentials to WES by June 1 (fall) or January 15 (spring) (transfer credit).
Deadlines
Common App by November 1 (Early Decision I) or January 5 (Early Decision II and Regular Decision); transcripts may follow the deadline (International applicants: application process).
Literal translations, from a translation service
W&M is specific about the kind of translation it wants: official and literal, not interpretive, for certified non-English transcripts or grade reports, and it tells you that you can use a translation service (application process).
A literal translation keeps the subjects, grades and remarks as they appear, without converting marks or explaining the system, which is how eVerbary translates: the grading scale is reproduced, never converted.
The records cover more years than many universities ask for: the ninth-grade year (last year of middle or junior high school) and the complete senior high school record, sent directly to W&M by your school with the Secondary School Report (International applicants: application process).
Syllabi and WES for advanced credit
If you completed a 13-year secondary program, such as A-Levels, or attended a university abroad, W&M asks for translated syllabi for each thirteenth-year or university course with your application, to be eligible for possible credit (transfer credit).
Syllabi are often long; ask for a quote with the page count before you order.
Once admitted and committed to enroll, you may be asked to send your academic credentials to World Education Services by June 1 for fall or January 15 for spring; W&M also accepts evaluations from other services, and credit is decided individually by faculty policy (International applicants: transfer credit).
WES wants a word-for-word translation by a professional translator; see translation for WES.

- Secondary leaving certificate or national exam results
- University transcripts, if any
- Course syllabi for 13th-year or university courses
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to W&M
Your school sends the records with the Secondary School Report; the official translations accompany them, and supplemental materials can arrive after the Common App deadline (International applicants: application process).
Translated syllabi go in with your application for admission (International applicants: transfer credit). We can also email the translation directly to the admission office on request.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For W&M that means we translate your records and syllabi; a WES or other evaluation for credit, if requested after you enroll, comes from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a translation company for William & Mary?
Yes. W&M says that if you need your transcript translated, you can use a translation service, and asks for official, literal translations (International applicants: application process).
What does "literal, not interpretive" mean?
A translation that renders what the document says, line by line, without converting grades or adding explanations. eVerbary translations reproduce the grades and scale exactly as they appear.
Do I need a credential evaluation to apply?
Not for admission. A WES evaluation may be requested after you are admitted and decide to enroll, for credit (International applicants: transfer credit).
Do I need to translate syllabi?
Only if you want possible credit for a thirteenth year or university courses: submit translated syllabi for each course with your application (International applicants: transfer credit).
How far back do my records need to go?
From the ninth-grade year through senior high school (International applicants: application process).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
