How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The University of South Alabama asks international applicants to send academic records not in English with a certified translation, and its Office of International Admissions and Student Programs calculates the GPA itself; the page does not say who must translate.
University of South Alabama accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
A course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member is encouraged for transfer credit and required by some programs; we do not provide it.

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
South Alabama's international requirements say records not in English "must be accompanied by a certified translation" without restricting who makes it (requirements); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. South Alabama requirements in detail
Translation
Academic records not in English must be accompanied by a certified translation (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Who may translate
Not stated.
What the records must show
Subjects studied by year, weekly lecture and laboratory hours for every subject, year-end marks, and copies of diplomas or certificates; consolidated mark sheets are not accepted (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Official records
Original stamp or seal and signature of a government or school official, mailed by each institution; notarized copies are not accepted (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Unofficial copies
Accepted for admission; official copies are due by the first-semester check-in and orientation, or admission and the I-20 may be cancelled (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Evaluation
Encouraged for transcripts from outside the US: course-by-course from a NACES or AICE member, at the student's expense including translation costs; The Evaluation Company offers a discount (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Required evaluation
A course-by-course professional evaluation is required for transfers into the College of Education and Professional Studies and the professional component of Allied Health programs (bulletin).
Priority deadlines (outside the US)
Fall April 1, spring October 1, summer March 1 (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Records detailed enough for South Alabama to compute your GPA
South Alabama's Office of International Admissions and Student Programs calculates your grade point average itself: 2.0 minimum for transfers and, for most graduate programs, 3.0 (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
To do that, it asks for records that list the subjects studied each year, the weekly lecture and laboratory hours for every attempt at every subject, and the marks in year-end exams, with copies of diplomas, titles and certificates. Consolidated mark sheets are not accepted.
The translation has to carry all of that: every subject, every year, the hours and the marks, with the grading scale as printed. We translate the full record and never convert grades, so the office can apply its own calculation.
Official, not notarized
Official records bear the original stamp or seal and signature of a government or school official, such as a registrar or dean, and must be mailed by each institution to the Office of International Admissions and Student Programs; notarized copies are refused (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
The bulletin adds that records should be forwarded directly from the issuing institution whenever possible (Bulletin: international student admissions).
You can apply with unofficial copies. Officials are due no later than your first-semester check-in and orientation; if they do not arrive, South Alabama may revoke admission and cancel the immigration document it issued.
When an evaluation is needed
For transfer credit, South Alabama encourages a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES or AICE member, which you request and pay for, translation costs included, and mentions a discount from The Evaluation Company (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
The bulletin makes a professional course-by-course evaluation mandatory for transfers accepted into the College of Education and Professional Studies and for the professional component of programs in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions, and asks for a detailed course syllabus to evaluate foreign transfer credit.
If you use an agency, the translation goes to it under its own rules; The Evaluation Company, for example, takes outside translations only from ATA-certified translators (TEC), which eVerbary provides on request through a free quote.

Uploading the translation to South Alabama
Undergraduates submit the International Application for Admission; graduate applicants apply and upload required documents in the application portal (International admissions requirements and deadlines). Unofficial copies, with their translations, can be used for the admission decision.
Official records are mailed by each institution to the Office of International Admissions and Student Programs (International admissions requirements and deadlines); ask that office how it wants the translation of an official record delivered.
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For South Alabama that means we translate your records and syllabi; South Alabama calculates the GPA itself, and any course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES or AICE agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my records for South Alabama?
Its requirements ask for a certified translation and do not limit who makes it (International admissions requirements and deadlines). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that wording.
Do I need a credential evaluation?
For admission, no: the international office calculates your GPA. For transfer credit it is encouraged (International admissions requirements and deadlines), and it is required for some Education and Allied Health transfers (Bulletin: international student admissions).
Can I send a consolidated mark sheet?
No. South Alabama does not accept consolidated mark sheets (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Can I send notarized copies?
No. Official records must carry the original stamp or seal and signature of a government or school official; notarized copies are not accepted (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Can I apply with unofficial documents?
Yes, but officials must arrive by your first-semester check-in and orientation (International admissions requirements and deadlines).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
