Worth knowing about URochester

URochester requirements in detail
Translation (graduate, Arts, Sciences and Engineering)
Any material not in English needs a professionally transcribed English translation; transcripts must be professionally translated and the translation must state that it is accredited (Graduate studies (Arts, Sciences and Engineering): international students application).
Translation (Simon Business School)
A certified English translation of transcripts not in English (Simon Business School admissions blog: submitting a complete application).
Who may translate
A professional translator (graduate); Simon does not say.
Undergraduate first-year
No translation wording; required materials are sent by your school, testing site or family through the Common App or Coalition (Undergraduate admissions: international students).
Evaluation (undergraduate transfer)
A course-by-course evaluation of college transcripts from WES or ECE if your college education was outside the US (Undergraduate admissions: international students); admissions may waive the cost if it is a barrier (Undergraduate admissions: transfer students).
Evaluation (graduate)
Three-year degrees need a WES evaluation stating equivalence to a US four-year bachelor's (Graduate studies (Arts, Sciences and Engineering): international students application).
Graduate: professional, accredited, uploaded with the original
The graduate international applicants page for Arts, Sciences and Engineering sets three conditions.
A transcript not in English must be professionally translated; you upload both the translation and your original transcript in the transcript section of the application; and the translation must state that it is an accredited translation (graduate admissions).
Other supporting materials should be in English, or sent in their original format with English translations.
eVerbary's translations are made by professional translators and carry a signed certificate of translation accuracy. Rochester does not define what an "accredited translation" statement must say; if you need specific wording on the certificate, confirm it with graduate admissions before you order.
Three-year degrees and the WES equivalency
If you apply with a three-year degree from a foreign institution, graduate admissions asks for a WES evaluation stating that your degree is equivalent to a US four-year bachelor's degree.
You upload an unofficial copy of the WES report in the transcript section, and if admitted you ask WES to send the official evaluation to the University (Graduate studies (Arts, Sciences and Engineering): international students application).
WES does not translate for you: it asks for a word-for-word translation by a professional translator and refuses translations by applicants (WES). The same translation can go to WES and into your Rochester application.
Undergraduate: no translation rule, WES or ECE for transfer
The undergraduate pages for international applicants do not mention translations. First-year applicants apply through the Common App or Coalition, with materials sent directly by the school.
Transfer applicants whose college education was outside the US must send a course-by-course credential evaluation of their college transcripts from World Education Services or Education Credential Evaluators (international students); the transfer page links URochester's ECE landing page and offers to consider waiving the cost if it is a barrier (transfer students).
The FAQ adds that credentials outside the US may require a WES or other third-party evaluation for transfer credit (FAQ).
Both agencies need records not in English translated before they evaluate them. ECE accepts a complete word-for-word translation, lets applicants translate their own documents and sells a translation waiver; WES requires a professional translation.

Uploading the translation to URochester
Graduate applicants in Arts, Sciences and Engineering upload the translation and the original transcript in the transcript section of the online application (Graduate studies (Arts, Sciences and Engineering): international students application).
Simon applicants upload scanned transcripts, the diploma when needed and the grading scale in the Academic History section (Simon Business School admissions blog: submitting a complete application).
Undergraduate transfer applicants send their records and translations to WES or ECE, which sends the evaluation electronically to Rochester (Undergraduate admissions: transfer students).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Rochester that means we translate your records; the WES or ECE evaluation for transfers and the WES equivalency for three-year degrees come from the agency.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
What does "accredited translation" mean for Rochester graduate admission?
The page asks that the translation state it is an accredited translation, made professionally, and uploaded with the original (Graduate studies (Arts, Sciences and Engineering): international students application). It does not define the wording; confirm with graduate admissions if you need a specific statement.
Does Rochester accept a translation company?
Yes. Graduate admissions requires the transcript to be professionally translated (Graduate studies (Arts, Sciences and Engineering): international students application), and University of Rochester accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
I have a three-year bachelor's degree. What do I need?
A WES evaluation stating it is equivalent to a US four-year bachelor's degree; upload the unofficial report and have WES send the official one after admission (Graduate studies (Arts, Sciences and Engineering): international students application).
Do I need an evaluation to transfer to Rochester from a foreign university?
Yes, a course-by-course evaluation from WES or ECE; admissions can consider waiving the cost if it is a barrier (international students, transfer).
Does Simon Business School need a certified translation?
Yes, if your transcripts are not in English (Simon Business School admissions blog: submitting a complete application).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
