UAlbany at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

UAlbany asks for "an official, certified English translation" (undergraduate) and "certified translations into English" (graduate) without restricting who makes them, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about UAlbany

Official and certified

Undergraduate transcripts not in English need both.

Evaluation optional

TEC or WES, sent by the agency itself.

Apostilled copies

Accepted from eight former Soviet republics (graduate).

UAlbany requirements in detail

Translation (undergraduate)

Transcripts in languages other than English must come with an official, certified English translation (International admissions: apply as an international undergraduate student).

Translation (graduate)

Transcripts in the original language, with certified translations into English; an English-language transcript is enough if instruction was in English, with official proof of the language of instruction (Graduate admissions: information for international applicants).

Who may translate

Not stated on either page.

Evaluation

Not required. Undergraduate admissions accepts The Evaluation Company or WES reports sent directly by the agency; graduate admissions accepts WES. Other services only if they get official documents directly from the institution, and, for undergraduates, only NACES members (undergraduate, graduate).

Transcripts (undergraduate)

First-year: secondary school transcript sent by your school. Transfer: transcripts of all college work, plus the secondary transcript if you have fewer than 24 transferable credits (International admissions: apply as an international undergraduate student).

India, Bangladesh, Nepal (graduate)

Individual mark sheets for every examination attempt, including subsidiary exams, and the provisional or degree certificate, issued by the Registrar or Controller of Examinations (Graduate admissions: information for international applicants).

Proof of degree (graduate)

Required; if it is not in by the end of your first semester, a hold is placed (Graduate admissions: information for international applicants).

Undergraduate: transcript from your school, translation certified

UAlbany's international undergraduate page uses two adjectives at once: transcripts in another language need an "official, certified" English translation. It does not say who makes it.

The transcript itself has to come straight from your secondary school, electronically or by mail, to the Office of International Admissions & Recruitment in University Hall, and admitted students send a final transcript showing the graduation date (undergraduate application instructions).

Transfer applicants send official transcripts from every college or university attended, even where they expect no credit, and add the secondary transcript if they have completed fewer than 24 transferable credits. Each non-English record needs its translation.

Evaluations are optional, but the agency is not

UAlbany does not require an evaluation, but it says a transcript evaluation helps the committee compare your school, coursework and grades with other applicants.

Undergraduate admissions accepts reports from The Evaluation Company or WES sent by the agency directly; any other service must obtain official documents directly from the institution, not from the student, and be a NACES member (International admissions: apply as an international undergraduate student).

Graduate admissions names only WES, with the same rule for other services (Graduate admissions: information for international applicants).

If you order one, the agency sets its own translation rule: WES asks for a professional translation and refuses applicant translations; The Evaluation Company accepts outside translators only if certified by the American Translators Association.

Graduate: country rules

The Graduate School lists document rules by country (international applicants).

Applicants from India, Bangladesh and Nepal send individual mark sheets for each examination attempt, including subsidiary exams, plus the provisional or degree certificate; photocopies count only when attested by the Registrar or Controller of Examinations and mailed in a sealed, stamped envelope.

Applicants from China send both the Graduate Certificate and the Bachelor's Degree Certificate.

Applicants from Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Moldova may send apostilled photocopies of their official records instead of records sent by the institution.

Copies are enough to apply; official transcripts are required on admission, and proof of a bachelor's degree must arrive by the end of the first semester.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For UAlbany that means we translate your records; an optional TEC or WES evaluation is ordered from the agency, and attested or apostilled copies come from your university or the issuing authority.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
