Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute asks international first-year and transfer applicants for official transcripts with English translations, and its graduate admissions office wants transcripts, degrees and transcript keys in English; neither says who must translate.

RPI at Work's graduate programs add that translations must be official, sent with the original-language transcript, and never uncertified or made by the student.

RPI at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

RPI asks for transcripts "with English translations" (first-year, transfer) and graduate records in English (graduate) without saying who translates; RPI at Work refuses only uncertified and student translations (RPI at Work).

Worth knowing about RPI

With English translations

First-year and transfer transcripts not in English.

Keys in English too

Graduate transcripts, degrees and transcript keys.

No student translations

RPI at Work wants certified ones, with originals.

RPI requirements in detail

Translation (first-year)

Official copies of all secondary school transcripts, with English translations (Undergraduate admissions: international applicants).

Translation (transfer)

Official copies of all college and university transcripts, with English translations (Undergraduate admissions: international transfer students).

Translation (graduate)

Transcripts and degrees, including transcript keys, must be in English for all post-secondary study (Graduate admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Translation (RPI at Work)

Recorded in or officially translated to English, with the original-language transcript; uncertified or student translations are not accepted (RPI at Work: apply).

Who may translate

Not stated; RPI at Work excludes the student and uncertified translators.

Evaluation

None of the pages asks for a credential evaluation.

Copies or originals

Graduate: unofficial transcripts uploaded to the application (Graduate admissions: deadlines and requirements). RPI at Work: official copies sent to Graduate Admissions; uploaded copies are not considered (RPI at Work: apply).

Country notes (first-year)

China: junior high transcripts (grades 7-9) may accompany A-level coursework; Ontario: the OSSD (Undergraduate admissions: international applicants).

Undergraduate: transcripts with translations, and nothing more

RPI's international first-year checklist asks for official copies of all secondary school transcripts, with English translations, and says plainly that certificates, copies of awards and diplomas are not needed; awards and activities go in the application instead (international applicants).

Applicants from China may add junior high transcripts for grades 7 to 9 alongside A-level coursework, and Ontario students may submit the OSSD.

International transfer applicants submit official copies of all college and university transcripts, also with English translations (international transfer). Neither page asks for a credential evaluation or names a translator.

Graduate: everything in English, keys included

RPI's graduate admissions requirements say transcripts and degrees for all post-secondary education must be in English, including the transcript keys, and that unofficial transcripts are uploaded with the application (graduate requirements).

The grading key on the back of a transcript is easy to leave out; translate it with the transcript.

RPI at Work, RPI's online certificate and degree programs, is more explicit.

International transcripts must be recorded in, or officially translated to, English; the original-language transcripts must accompany every translation; and uncertified translations, or translations by students, will not be accepted.

Official copies go to RPI Graduate Admissions by email or mail, uploaded copies are not considered, and a certified copy of the diploma is needed when the transcript does not show the degree (RPI at Work).

Uploading the translation to RPI

  • Undergraduate applicants send official transcripts with their translations as part of the international application (first-year, transfer). Graduate applicants upload unofficial transcripts and translations to the graduate application (Graduate admissions: deadlines and requirements).

  • RPI at Work applicants have official copies, with the original-language transcript and its certified translation, sent to RPI Graduate Admissions by email or mail (RPI at Work: apply).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For RPI that means we translate your transcripts and keys; the official copies and any certified copy of the diploma come from your school.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does RPI accept a translation from a translation company?

Yes. RPI asks for English translations without naming who makes them (Undergraduate admissions: international applicants), and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Do I need a WES evaluation for RPI?

None of the undergraduate, graduate or RPI at Work pages we read asks for one.

Should I translate the grading key on my transcript?

Yes for graduate admission: transcripts and degrees, including transcript keys, must be in English (Graduate admissions: deadlines and requirements).

Can I translate my own transcript for RPI at Work?

No. RPI at Work does not accept uncertified translations or translations by students (RPI at Work: apply).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
