How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

Temple University asks international first-year and transfer applicants for documents in the original language with an English translation, and does not say who must make it; it evaluates transfer transcripts itself.

Temple University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

For graduate admission, the Graduate School asks for translations by the issuing institution or a translator certified by the American Translators Association, which eVerbary provides on request, or a NACES course-by-course evaluation instead of official transcripts.

Temple at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Temple's international undergraduate pages ask for documents "in the original language and with an English translation" and do not say who must translate them (first-year, transfer), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it.

The Graduate School requires the issuing institution or an ATA-certified translator (graduate documents). Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Worth knowing about Temple

No agency evaluation

Temple evaluates undergraduate transfer transcripts itself.

Notarized copies

Keep your originals and send notarized copies instead.

Graduate: ATA or issuer

Or a NACES course-by-course evaluation in lieu of transcripts.

Temple requirements in detail

Translation (undergraduate)

Documents not in English go in the original language with an English translation; official secondary school transcripts with English translations (first-year, transfer).

Who may translate (undergraduate)

Not stated.

Translation (graduate)

Transcripts in both English and the original language; translations by the issuing institution or an ATA-certified translator (Graduate School: required application documents).

Evaluation

Undergraduate transfers: not required; Temple does its own evaluation (International students FAQ). Graduate: a NACES course-by-course evaluation may replace official transcripts (Graduate School: required application documents).

Originals or copies

Documents are kept by Temple; you may keep your originals and send notarized copies (First-year international students, FAQ).

Where to send (undergraduate)

Apply on the Common App; documents come by email from a school official or testing body, or by mail to International Admissions, Conwell Hall 103, 1801 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19122 (First-year international students).

Graduate country rules

China: transcripts, graduation and degree certificates and CSSD verification; India: transcripts, marksheets and degree certificates. Otherwise Temple asks for the documents WES lists for your country (Graduate School: required application documents).

Undergraduate: translation yes, evaluation no

First-year and transfer applicants send all official and original academic records from every secondary school attended, in the original language with an English translation (first-year, transfer).

If your secondary curriculum lasts only three years, Temple strongly recommends sending the final year of primary school too.

Transfer students do not need an agency evaluation: Temple performs its own and says the original transcripts are still necessary even if you send one; transfer credit is evaluated after admission, within two to three weeks of the decision (International students FAQ).

The translation is what Temple's evaluators read, so it should keep every course title and grade as issued.

Graduate School: ATA-certified translator or the issuer

The Graduate School asks for transcripts from every undergraduate and graduate school in both English and the original language, and says all translations must be completed by the issuing institution or an ATA-certified translator.

Instead of official transcripts you may send a NACES course-by-course evaluation; unofficial transcripts are enough for review, and official ones, or the evaluation, are due before matriculation (Graduate School: required application documents).

eVerbary is an ATA corporate member and assigns a translator individually certified by ATA on request; see the ATA section below. Individual graduate programs may add their own requirements, so check your school or college as well.

Where Temple's graduate pages differ

The Graduate School's required documents page names the issuing institution or an ATA-certified translator.

The Graduate Bulletin policies say instead that records not issued in English need literal translations prepared by an appropriate university or government official, or an evaluation from an organization approved by Temple sent directly to the program.

We have not resolved this; ask your graduate program which rule it applies before you order.

Need a certified translation for Temple?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school transcripts and leaving certificates
  • Final-year primary school records, for three-year secondary curricula
  • University transcripts and degree certificates for graduate study
  • Marksheets (India) and graduation and degree certificates (China)

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Temple

  • Undergraduate applicants apply on the Common App; documents arrive by email from a school official or testing body, or by mail to International Admissions at Conwell Hall 103. Mailed documents may slow processing, and Temple keeps everything it receives (First-year international students).

  • Graduate applicants can upload unofficial transcripts for review and must provide official transcripts and degree certificates, or a NACES evaluation, before matriculation (Graduate School: required application documents).

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Temple, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Temple that means we translate your records; we do not issue notarized copies of your originals, and a graduate NACES evaluation, if you choose one, comes from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my documents for Temple?

For undergraduate admission, Temple asks for an English translation and does not name who must make it (First-year international students). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation.

Do I need WES or another evaluation as a transfer student?

No. Temple does not require one and performs its own evaluation, though you may send one (International students FAQ).

Can I keep my original documents?

Yes. Temple keeps what you send, so you may submit notarized copies of your originals instead (International students FAQ).

What do graduate applicants need?

Transcripts in English and the original language, translated by the issuing institution or an ATA-certified translator, or a NACES course-by-course evaluation instead (Graduate School: required application documents).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for Temple?

Yes, on request. Ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for Temple's Graduate School and needs a translator individually certified by ATA. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
