How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

St. John's University asks international first-year and transfer applicants for official academic records in the original language together with an official English translation, and does not say who must make it.

St. John's University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

University work done outside the US also needs a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member (World Education Services for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences), which we do not provide.

St. John's at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

St. John's international undergraduate requirements ask for records "in original language with official English translation" and do not say who must translate them (undergraduate requirements), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. St. John's requirements in detail

Translation

First-year and transfer: official records and Ministry of Education certificates in the original language with an "official English translation"; college transcripts the same way (International undergraduate application requirements).

Who may translate

Not stated. The page names no translator type and does not limit translations to the issuing school (International undergraduate application requirements).

Evaluation (undergraduate)

None for secondary records, except applicants home-schooled outside the US, who send a NACES course-by-course evaluation. Transfers who attended a university abroad send a NACES course-by-course evaluation (International undergraduate application requirements).

Pharmacy and Health Sciences

Course-by-course evaluations must come from World Education Services (requirements, FAQ).

Graduate

Foreign records, or records in a language other than English, need a NACES course-by-course evaluation with US grade and credit equivalents (International graduate application requirements).

Where to send

Upload documents in the Online Student Portal at apply.stjohns.edu; St. John's does not recommend mailing (Undergraduate application requirements: how to submit documents). Graduate official transcripts go to the processing center (Graduate admission FAQs).

Transfer credit

Up to 90 credits, depending on the major; only final grades of C+ or the equivalent transfer (International admission FAQs).

First-year applicants: a translation, and no evaluation

For international first-year applicants, St. John's asks for official academic records or the official certificates and results from the Ministry of Education or the secondary school, in the original language, with an official English translation, plus official results from exam boards such as the International Baccalaureate, the GCE, the Caribbean Examinations Council or the West African Examinations Council (International undergraduate application requirements).

It does not ask first-year applicants for an evaluation; the only exception on the page is students home-schooled outside the US, who need a NACES course-by-course evaluation.

The translation therefore is the document admissions reads. It should keep the name of the certificate exactly as issued and every subject and mark, with the original next to it, since the page asks for both.

Transfer students: the 60-credit line and the July 15 deadline

International transfer applicants send official college transcripts with an official English translation and, if they attended a university outside the US, a NACES member course-by-course evaluation; admitted transfers who plan to enroll must provide that evaluation by July 15 (International undergraduate application requirements).

Secondary school records and exam results are also required if you do not have an associate degree or equivalent, and the FAQ adds that applicants with fewer than 60 transferable credits need a translated secondary school transcript (FAQ).

St. John's accepts up to 90 transfer credits depending on the major, and only for courses with a final grade of C+ or its equivalent (International admission FAQs).

Programs of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences require the course-by-course evaluation to come from World Education Services, which asks for a word-for-word translation by a professional translator (WES); see translation for WES.

Graduate applicants: the evaluation is the requirement

The international graduate page does not set a translation rule of its own.

It requires a foreign credential evaluation from anyone who attended an international university or whose records are in a language other than English, from an agency listed by NACES, course by course, with US grade and credit equivalents (International graduate application requirements); the FAQ adds the US degree equivalency and a GPA on a 4.0 scale (FAQ).

The evaluation agency sets the translation rule; see translation for credential evaluation.

Undergraduate pages offer discounted, expedited forms from The Evaluation Company, IEE and ECE Select; the graduate page offers a SpanTran form, The Evaluation Company's former name (undergraduate, graduate).

The Evaluation Company takes outside translations only from ATA-certified translators (TEC). Individual schools may add requirements, so check your program's section too.

Need a certified translation for St. John's?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school records and Ministry of Education certificates or results
  • Exam board results, such as WAEC, CXC, GCE or national exams
  • College and university transcripts, for transfer applicants and the NACES evaluation
  • Degree certificates and diplomas for graduate applicants

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to St. John's

  • Undergraduate applicants apply online and upload documents afterward in the Online Student Portal at apply.stjohns.edu; Common App applicants receive a temporary PIN by email.

St. John's asks students not to mail documents at this time (Undergraduate application requirements: how to submit documents). Upload the translation together with the original-language record it belongs to.

  • Graduate applicants submit most documents with the online application, and official transcripts go to the processing center (Graduate admission FAQs).

If you have only one official copy, the graduate page offers to copy it in person at Newman Hall, Room 109, and return it (International graduate application requirements).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For St. John's that means we translate your records; the NACES course-by-course evaluation (WES for Pharmacy and Health Sciences) is ordered from the agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my documents for St. John's?

The undergraduate requirements ask for an official English translation without naming who must make it (International undergraduate application requirements). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation.

Do I need a credential evaluation as a first-year applicant?

Not according to the international first-year requirements, unless you were home-schooled outside the US, in which case a NACES course-by-course evaluation is needed (International undergraduate application requirements).

When is the evaluation due for transfer students?

Admitted international transfers who plan to enroll must provide a course-by-course evaluation by July 15 (International undergraduate application requirements).

Which agency should I use for Pharmacy or Health Sciences?

World Education Services; the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences requires its evaluations (International admission FAQs).

Do I still need my high school records as a transfer?

Yes if you have fewer than 60 transferable credits or no associate degree: the FAQ asks for a translated secondary school transcript (International admission FAQs, requirements).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
