Prince George's Community College asks F-1 applicants to prove high school or college completion, and its F-1 page says documents that are not in English must be translated by a certified translation agency.
Prince George's Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Credit for college work done outside the US also needs a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member, which we do not provide.
PGCC at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
PGCC's F-1 admission page says a certified translation agency must translate documents that are not in English and asks for an official English translation from a certified agency (F-1 visa holders); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. PGCC requirements in detail
Translation
F-1 applicants: documents not in English go with an official English translation from a certified agency (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Who may translate
A certified translation agency (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Proof of completion
Transcripts that state a graduation date, a school-leaving or national senior certificate, national exam results such as WASSCE, NECO, GCE or GCSE, or a US GED (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Copies or originals
Unofficial copies are accepted for admission. Before enrollment, the school or exam body sends an official copy, or you present an original or certified hard copy on arrival; originals are returned on request, and photocopies are not official (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Where to send
Upload to the applicant portal, email the packet as attachments (not links) to internationalgroup@pgcc.edu, or mail it to F-1 Student Admission, Bladen Hall, Room 126, Largo (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Deadlines (F-1)
Complete packets by June 1 for fall and November 1 for spring (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Foreign college credit
Course-by-course evaluation from a NACES member, plus course descriptions; PGCC recommends WES or Josef Silny & Associates (F-1 page, transfer policy).
Residents and other visas
The page for permanent residents, asylees, refugees and other visa holders lists the general application and residency documents; it states no translation rule (Permanent residents, asylees, refugees and non-student visas).
Unofficial copies first, official records before you enroll
PGCC lets F-1 applicants start with unofficial copies of their academic records: they are enough for the admission decision.
Once admission is offered, the school or exam body that issued the record must send an official copy, or you bring an original or certified hard copy when you arrive in the US; PGCC returns originals and certified copies on request (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
The translation follows the same path. Translate the record you upload for admission, and keep the certified translation with the official copy that goes in later.
The page also sets an exam threshold for British-style systems: at least three passes at A level or five at O level, for GCE, GCSE, IGCSE and similar certificates (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Your translation should show each subject and grade so those passes can be counted.
Credit from outside the US: NACES, and the school you transfer to next
PGCC's transfer credit policy sends records from outside the US to a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, and it recommends World Education Services or Josef Silny & Associates.
It also asks you to consider which evaluator your future four-year school requires before you choose one, so you do not pay twice (Transfer credit policies and procedures).
An official copy of the original transcript is also needed, sent separately if it does not come with the evaluation, and course descriptions or syllabi must be in English.
The F-1 checklist asks for this evaluation before the records reach PGCC (F-1 admission checklist (PDF)).
Expect a transfer equivalency report about six weeks after PGCC has the transcripts, the evaluation request form and any syllabi (Transfer credit policies and procedures).
Each agency sets its own rule for the translations it receives; WES, for example, wants a word-for-word translation by a professional service.
Where PGCC's pages differ
The F-1 page asks applicants to have documents translated by a certified translation agency.
The transfer credit policy says records from outside the US go to a NACES agency "for translation and credit recommendations", without saying whether a translation you already have is used. We have not resolved this.
If you are sending foreign college records for credit, ask the agency what it needs and transfercredit@pgcc.edu what PGCC needs.
Need a certified translation for PGCC?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts that show a graduation date
- School-leaving certificate or national senior certificate
- National exam results, such as WASSCE, NECO, GCE or GCSE
- University transcripts and course descriptions, for transfer credit
- Bank statements or a bank letter, if not in English
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to PGCC
After the online international application and the $50 fee, upload the records and their certified translations to your applicant portal, email them as attachments to internationalgroup@pgcc.edu, or mail them to F-1 Student Admission, Office of Records and Registration, Bladen Hall, Room 126, Largo, MD 20774 (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
For foreign college credit, the NACES agency's evaluation and an official copy of the original transcript go to PGCC; questions go to transfercredit@pgcc.edu (Transfer credit policies and procedures).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For PGCC that means we translate your records; the course-by-course evaluation of foreign college work comes from a NACES agency such as WES or Josef Silny.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who has to translate my documents for PGCC?
A certified translation agency, according to the F-1 admission page (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets that.
Can I apply with unofficial copies?
Yes. Unofficial copies are accepted for admission; official copies are required before you enroll (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Does PGCC accept IELTS?
No. The F-1 page accepts only the TOEFL, taken within the last two years, unless you qualify for a waiver (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Which agency should evaluate my foreign college credits?
Any NACES member. PGCC recommends WES or Josef Silny & Associates and suggests checking which one your future four-year school accepts (Transfer credit policies and procedures).
Can I send my documents as a Google Drive link?
No. PGCC asks that emailed documents be attachments, not hyperlinks (F-1 visa holders: admission requirements).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
