Montclair State at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Montclair's international first-year page asks for "an official English translation" of documents not in English and does not say who must make it (first-year requirements), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Policy checked on October 21, 2026.

Montclair State requirements in detail
Translation
First-year: an official English translation of any transcript, diploma or other academic document not in English (International first-year applicants). Transfer: an English translation of all coursework completed in another country (International transfer applicants).
Who may translate
Not stated.
Evaluation (first-year)
Not mentioned on the first-year page; include exam results such as IB, AP, CAPE, IGCSE or A levels, and 10th and 12th results (International first-year applicants).
Evaluation (transfer)
From a NACES member: an evaluation of the high school transcript and a course-by-course evaluation of all college-level work, at the time of application. The high school part is waived with an associate degree or 30+ college credits at a four-year institution (International transfer applicants).
Evaluation (graduate)
Non-US degrees need an official NACES evaluation with US degree equivalency and overall GPA, sent directly by the company; course-by-course for doctoral and some programs (International graduate applicants, application process).
Where to send
Upload or mail secondary records; the application fee and later steps run through the status page of your application portal (International first-year applicants).
Deadlines
First-year final international deadline: June 15, 2027, suggested for students outside the US (International first-year applicants). Graduate deadlines depend on whether you already have an evaluation (International graduate applicants).
First-year and transfer applicants are treated differently
For first-year applicants, Montclair asks you to upload or mail your records from every secondary school you attended, with an official English translation of anything not in English, and your exam results (International first-year applicants).
The page does not ask first-year applicants for an evaluation, so the translation is what admissions reads.
Transfer applicants must send an English translation and an academic evaluation of all coursework completed in another country at the time of application, not after admission.
That means an evaluation of the high school transcript plus a course-by-course evaluation of all college-level work, from an organization affiliated with NACES.
Applicants with an associate degree, or 30 or more college credits at a four-year institution, skip the high school part (International transfer applicants). Order the translation first, so the agency has it when it starts.
Graduate applicants: your own evaluation or Montclair's free one
The Office of Graduate Admissions does not evaluate international transcripts.
You can order your own NACES evaluation showing US degree equivalency and overall GPA, which must reach Montclair directly from the company; doctoral applicants need a course-by-course report, and master's applicants may be asked for one (International graduate applicants).
Montclair suggests The Evaluation Company, Educational Perspectives, ECE and IEE (Graduate application process).
Alternatively, a limited number of applicants are offered a free evaluation.
After your application is complete you may be invited; if selected, you submit original documents directly to The Evaluation Company through links sent by email, and TEC sends the report to Montclair, typically within five days.
You do not get access to that report, most doctoral applicants are not eligible, and TEC may charge you directly for extra verification (International graduate applicants).
Graduate deadlines also depend on this: for fall, two weeks before classes if you still need an evaluation, one week before if you already have one (International graduate applicants).
What the suggested agencies ask for the translation
The Evaluation Company takes outside translations only from translators certified by the American Translators Association, or translates in-house once your application is complete (TEC).
ECE accepts a complete, word-for-word translation, including one made by the applicant, or translates for its report under an $85 waiver (ECE).
Educational Perspectives accepts translations from a reputable translation agency or a certified professional translator (EP).
If you are selected for the free TEC evaluation, ask TEC how it wants documents that are not in English before you order a translation.

Uploading the translation to Montclair State
First-year applicants upload or mail their secondary records with the official English translation; the application fee and other steps appear on the status page of the application portal.
Mailed materials go to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 1 Normal Avenue, Cole Hall, Montclair, NJ 07043 (International first-year applicants).
Transfer applicants submit the translation and the NACES evaluation with the application (International transfer applicants). Graduate evaluations must come directly from the evaluation company (International graduate applicants).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Montclair State that means we translate your records; the NACES evaluation for transfers and graduate applicants is ordered from the agency, or provided by TEC if you are selected for Montclair's free option.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my documents for Montclair State?
Montclair asks for an official English translation and does not name who must make it (International first-year applicants). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation.
Do first-year applicants need a credential evaluation?
The international first-year page asks for records, translations and exam results, not an evaluation (International first-year applicants).
When do transfer students need the evaluation?
At the time of application, together with the English translation (International transfer applicants).
Can I get a free evaluation as a graduate applicant?
Possibly: Montclair offers a limited number of free evaluations through The Evaluation Company to invited applicants, but you will not see the report and most doctoral applicants are not eligible (International graduate applicants).
Which evaluation agencies does the graduate school suggest?
The Evaluation Company, Educational Perspectives, ECE and IEE; any NACES member is acceptable (Graduate application process).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
