Rutgers University–New Brunswick: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language

Rutgers Undergraduate Admissions requires every document not in English to come with a translation verified by a language professor or professional translator, delivered on the translator's professional letterhead. Rutgers University–New Brunswick accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. International high school students first self-report their grades in STARS and send official records only after admission; graduate programs set their own evaluation rules, and Rutgers Business School asks for a translation from a professional translation agency.

A professional translator, on letterhead

Rutgers is unusually specific about the form of the translation. Its required credentials page asks for a translation verified by a language professor or professional translator and adds that it must arrive on the translator's professional letterhead.

Our certificate of translation accuracy is signed and issued on eVerbary letterhead with our contact details, which is the format the rule describes. The same page asks you not to send sport or craft certificates or letters of recommendation, so there is no need to translate those.

STARS now, official records after admission

International high school students do not send transcripts to apply. They enter their courses, grades, GPA and class rank in the Self-reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) and link it to the application through the Rutgers Applicant Portal, using the CommunityID that arrives 24 to 48 hours after a Common App submission (source, first-year page). A translation of your transcript helps you report each course and grade exactly as recorded.

Once you enroll, official academic records must be mailed directly from an educational authority, and the first-year page names SSC, HSSC, WAEC, GSEC (Tawjihiyah), GXE, GCE and Bagrut (source). Transfer applicants upload transcripts for review and, if they enroll, have each college send official transcripts directly (source).

Graduate programs and Rutgers Business School

The graduate admissions office has no translation rule of its own. Most departments review unofficial scanned transcripts uploaded to the application; official transcripts must come directly from the institution, and anything uploaded counts as unofficial. Chinese records go through CHESICC and Indian ones may come through TrueCopy Credentials. Whether you need a transcript evaluation depends on the program, which Graduate Admissions tells you to check (source, supporting materials, international students).

Rutgers Business School is explicit: if a record is not in English, the translation must come from a professional translation agency. RBS no longer requires a NACES evaluation, but may ask for one for a three-year degree or a GMAT waiver request, and it asks for original or certified (notarized) copies of transcripts, marksheets and degrees (source). Its Master of Supply Chain Analytics has you upload the documents and provide originals after acceptance (source). If you need notarization, it can be added at checkout for $34.90 per order.

Documents applicants usually translate

What an eVerbary translation includes

Uploading the translation to Rutgers

Undergraduate applicants upload documents through the Rutgers Applicant Portal, where they can see which credentials are still required and which were received (source). Keep the translation with the document it belongs to.

Graduate applicants upload unofficial transcripts and their translations in the Educational History section of the application, as PDF, Word or image files under 4 MB each (source).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Rutgers that means we translate your records; where a graduate program asks for a NACES evaluation, that report comes from the evaluation agency, and official records must still be sent by your school or exam board.

Frequently asked questions

Who can translate my documents for Rutgers?

A language professor or a professional translator, and the translation must arrive on the translator's professional letterhead (source). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary qualifies.

Do I send my transcript with the application?

Not if you are in an international secondary system: you self-report courses and grades in STARS, and official documents are required only if you are admitted and enroll (source).

What official records do I send after admission?

Records mailed directly from an educational authority, such as SSC, HSSC, WAEC, the Tawjihiyah, GCE or Bagrut (source).

Do Rutgers graduate programs require a credential evaluation?

It depends on the program; Graduate Admissions asks you to check your program's admissions information (source).

What does Rutgers Business School ask for?

A translation from a professional translation agency, and no NACES evaluation unless RBS requests one, for example for a three-year degree (source).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
