Miami Dade College: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Miami Dade College asks for original foreign documents with an apostille or foreign-affairs seal and a certified English translation: from a certified translator for F-1 university applicants, and from a member of the American Translators Association (ATA) on its pages for residents. For F-1 applicants, Miami Dade College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; for residents, eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062), and MDC's pages speak of a translator who is an ATA member, so confirm with MDC that a translation from an ATA corporate member meets that rule. We translate the documents and the apostille on them; we do not obtain the apostille, and the NACES or AICE evaluation required of foreign degree holders comes from an evaluation agency.
ATA member
Resident transcript pages point to the ATAnet.org directory.
Apostille on originals
Or the foreign-affairs seal for non-Hague countries.
No document-by-document
Degree holders need course-by-course plus degree equivalency.
Miami Dade College requirements at a glance
| What Miami Dade College asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation | A certified English translation of documents not issued in English. The checklist says it is required; other pages say MDC may require it or reserves the right to (checklist, Procedure 4000). |
| Who may translate | Residents: a translator who is an ATA member, found through ATAnet.org (checklist, source). F-1 university applicants: a certified translator (source). |
| Authentication | Originals must carry the seals and apostilles of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; for non-Hague countries, the official diploma with the translation (international, checklist). |
| Evaluation | Foreign degree holders not on an F-1 or J-1 visa: course-by-course plus degree equivalency from a NACES or AICE member; document-by-document is not accepted (source). |
| Evaluation instead of apostille | For high school credentials only, a NACES, AICE or Miami-Dade County Public Schools evaluation can replace the apostille (source). |
| Originals | Documents must be official and original; staff copy every part and stamp only the copies (source). |
| Names | All documents must share at least one last name, or you add a legal name-change document (source). |
| Timing | Transfer evaluations are processed first come, first served, normally in under a week once received (source). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | For F-1 applicants, yes: the international page asks for a translation "from a certified translator" (required documents), which a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is. For residents, the transcript pages ask for a translator who is an ATA member (send transcripts); eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062), and whether that meets MDC's rule is for MDC to confirm. Residents and immigrants: what each record needs
MDC's foreign transcripts checklist and transcripts page sort applicants by what they finished abroad. A foreign high school diploma from a Hague Convention country is submitted with its apostille and a certified English translation by an ATA member, or with a NACES, AICE or Miami-Dade County Public Schools evaluation that states US high school equivalency in place of the apostille. From a non-Hague country, the official diploma goes with the ATA translation. GCSE, CXC and WAEC results count only with at least five academic subjects.
College work abroad splits again. If you took courses without earning a degree, the transcript with its apostille and an ATA-member translation is enough, or a NACES or AICE evaluation instead. If you earned a degree and are not on an F-1 or J-1 visa, you submit the transcript and diploma with a course-by-course evaluation and degree equivalency statement from a NACES or AICE member; MDC rejects document-by-document reports for transfer credit (source). MDC may also ask for an evaluation whenever it cannot verify a document.
F-1 applicants: originals, apostilles and a certified translator
On the international required documents page, high school graduates send original transcripts and diploma with the seals and apostilles of the foreign ministry, and MDC reserves the right to request a certified official English translation. If the apostille cannot be obtained, an evaluation from a NACES or AICE member stating high school equivalency is accepted instead.
University students send complete original transcripts with an original English translation from a certified translator, and the page allows no exceptions to the apostille rule; a catalog or syllabus helps the transfer review. The transcript evaluation rule for degree holders is written for students who are not on F-1 or J-1 visas (source).
Where Miami Dade College's pages differ
On translation of high school records, the international page and Procedure 4000 say MDC reserves the right to ask for a certified translation and the transcripts page says documents may require an ATA translation, while the checklist says the ATA translation is required for documents not issued in English, with exceptions possible.
On evaluators, the MDC FAQ says only NACES evaluations are accepted, while the transcript evaluation page and the other pages accept NACES or AICE members. On translators, the international page asks for a certified translator and the resident pages for an ATA member. We have not resolved these differences; ask Transcript Services if you are unsure which page applies to you.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school diploma (Bachiller, Baccalaureate and similar) with its apostille
- High school transcripts of all years
- University transcripts, for students with foreign coursework but no degree
- University transcripts and degree certificate, for the course-by-course evaluation
- Apostille or foreign-affairs certificate attached to each document
- Legal name-change document, such as a marriage certificate, if the last names differ
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Miami Dade College
Residents and other domestic applicants bring the originals with the translation to the Admissions and Registration office at their home campus or submit them through Transcript Services, in person or electronically; staff copy them and stamp only the copies (checklist, source). Transfer evaluations are handled by Evaluation Services, evaluationservices@mdc.edu.
F-1 applicants send the originals, apostilles and the certified translation as part of the international admission documents (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Miami Dade College that means we translate your records and the apostille attached to them; the apostille itself comes from the government that issued the document, and the course-by-course evaluation required of degree holders comes from a NACES or AICE member.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my foreign diploma for Miami Dade College?
MDC's checklist and transcripts pages point to a translator who is an ATA member, found through ATAnet.org (source). For F-1 applicants the international page asks for a certified translator. eVerbary is an ATA corporate member (#273062); if you are a resident, ask MDC whether a translation from an ATA corporate member meets its rule.
My diploma has no apostille. Can I still use it at MDC?
For high school credentials, yes: a NACES, AICE or Miami-Dade County Public Schools evaluation stating US high school equivalency can replace the apostille (source).
I have a foreign bachelor's degree and live in Miami. What does MDC need?
The original transcript and diploma plus a course-by-course evaluation with degree equivalency from a NACES or AICE member; document-by-document reports are not accepted (source).
I took university courses abroad but did not finish. Do I need an evaluation?
Not necessarily. MDC says those students only need a transcript translation by an ATA member, with the apostille, or a NACES or AICE evaluation instead (source).
Will MDC keep my original documents?
No. Documents must be official and original, but staff photocopy them and stamp only the copies (source).
Do all my documents need to show the same name?
They must share at least one last name; otherwise add a legal name-change document (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
