How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Merced College asks F-1 applicants to upload their high school records and transcripts translated into English with the online application; it does not say who must translate.

Merced College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

Credit for college courses taken outside the US is a separate step: Merced evaluates international transcripts only after an ERES evaluation, which we do not produce.

Merced College at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

Merced College's how-to-apply page asks for "high school records and transcripts, translated into English" and names no translator (how to apply); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 27, 2026.

Merced College requirements in detail

Translation

High school records and transcripts translated into English, uploaded with the online application (International students: how to apply).

Who may translate

Not stated.

Evaluation

For credit only: an ERES evaluation, ordered as a "Course Listing" and paid by the student (Transcripts and international transcripts (Admissions & Records)).

Course descriptions

Descriptions in the native language, catalog information or syllabi, for courses you want reviewed by faculty; 60–90 days (Transcripts and international transcripts (Admissions & Records)).

Bank statement

A recent statement from parents or sponsor showing at least $23,000 for one year (International students: how to apply).

Deadlines

From abroad: May 15 for fall, October 15 for spring, February 15 for summer. F-1 transfers in the US: July 1, December 1, April 1 (International students: how to apply).

What counts for credit

Lower-division courses recommended by ERES only (Transcripts and international transcripts (Admissions & Records)).

What Merced College asks you to translate

The international application asks for high school records and transcripts translated into English, uploaded online with the rest of the packet: the Guarantee of Financial Support with a bank statement showing at least $23,000, English test scores (TOEFL 45 iBT or IELTS 5.0 may be considered), a one-page autobiographical essay and an academic letter of recommendation.

The recommendation letter, if your teacher writes it in another language, is worth translating too. For the school record, see high school diploma translation.

Transfer students already in the US on an F-1 visa send the same documents plus the transfer clearance form before an acceptance letter is issued (International students: how to apply).

Credit from abroad: ERES first, then faculty

Merced College does not evaluate international transcripts until Educational Records Evaluation Service (ERES) has evaluated them; ask ERES for a "Course Listing".

Admissions then considers only the lower-division courses ERES recommends.

For any course you want matched, you supply a course description, catalog page or syllabus, which may be in the native language, and discipline faculty review it in 60 to 90 days (Transcripts and international transcripts (Admissions & Records)).

Because international courses carry no C-ID number or CSU/UC breadth articulation, students who want them to count toward an Associate Degree for Transfer file a general petition or a course substitution.

For international transcripts you do not use the usual Transcript Evaluation Request; you email the evaluations team for next steps (Transcripts and international transcripts (Admissions & Records)). ERES sets its own translation rules for the report.

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Merced College that means we translate your school records and documents; the ERES Course Listing is ordered and paid for by you.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do my high school records need to be translated for Merced College?

Yes. They must be translated into English and uploaded with the online application (International students: how to apply).

Can I use a professional translation service?

Merced does not say who translates (International students: how to apply). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets the rule.

Which evaluation service does Merced College use?

ERES, ordered as a Course Listing; the student pays (Transcripts and international transcripts (Admissions & Records)).

Do my course descriptions need to be in English?

No. Merced accepts course descriptions in the native language, catalog information or syllabi for faculty review (Transcripts and international transcripts (Admissions & Records)).

Can I start in summer?

Yes. Applicants from abroad apply by February 15 for summer, F-1 transfers by April 1 (International students: how to apply).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
