Humacao Community College (HCC), in Puerto Rico, asks students with a high school diploma or equivalency from another country to provide a certified Spanish or English translation if necessary, and to have the documents evaluated for equivalency; it does not say who must translate.

Humacao Community College accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

A diploma already in Spanish or English needs no translation, and the validations HCC asks for (the issuing school, the ministry of your country and the Puerto Rico Department of Education) are steps we do not provide.

HCC at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

HCC's catalog asks for a certified Spanish or English translation of a foreign high school diploma or equivalency, without naming who must make it (catalog, section 3.4); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation. Policy checked on October 28, 2026.

Sample translation: a Congolese secondary school transcript

This is what an order looks like when it is delivered, with a fictitious student. The PDF starts with the signed certification page, and the translation follows the original line for line: every abbreviation is explained, stamps, seals and signatures are noted in brackets, and the grid stays the same, so an admissions officer or a credential evaluator can match it without guessing.

What to notice

  • Two school years in the same grid as the original: every subject, grading period, exam and total, so each grade can be read against its maximum.
  • The French rating abbreviations are translated (TB becomes VG, Very good), and every abbreviation is explained in a translator's note at the foot of the same page, including one the original never defines.
  • Dates are written the US way (the original's 02/07/2015 is February 7, 2015).
  • The photo, seals and signatures are noted in brackets where they appear.

HCC requirements in detail

Translation

A certified Spanish or English translation, if necessary, for a foreign high school diploma or equivalency (catalog; Spanish catalog).

Who may translate

Equivalency

Documents are evaluated for equivalency to US coursework by a college employee or a third party, most likely the Puerto Rico Postsecondary Institutions Board (Academic Catalog 2025-2027 (PDF)).

Foreign diploma

Must be certified by the Puerto Rico Department of Education (catalog, section 3.3).

Authentication

Every academic document certified by the issuing institution and validated by the Ministry of Education of your country and by the PR Department of Education (admission requirements).

Foreign students

Interview with the Director of Admissions, Form I-20, and evidence of studies equivalent to high school (Requisitos de admisión).

Transfer credit

From legitimate foreign institutions as determined by HCC, course by course, grade C (2.0) or better, under six years old (Academic Catalog 2025-2027 (PDF)).

A translation into Spanish or English, only when needed

Most Puerto Rico colleges teach in Spanish, and HCC reflects that: its catalog asks for a certified translation into Spanish or English "if necessary", so a diploma from Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Colombia goes in as it is.

A diploma in Portuguese, French, Haitian Creole or any other language needs a certified translation into one of the two (catalog, section 3.4; Spanish catalog).

The rule sits in the high school credential section, next to the requirement that every admitted student hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

If you translate, choose English or Spanish according to what the other offices handling your file will read. Your translation can go into either language; tell us which when you order. For the school record itself, see high school diploma translation.

Validation comes from governments, not from the translator

HCC asks for more than a translation.

The catalog says foreign high school diplomas must be certified by the Puerto Rico Department of Education, and the documents are then evaluated for equivalency by a college employee or a third party, most likely the Postsecondary Institutions Board (Academic Catalog 2025-2027 (PDF)).

The admissions page adds that every academic document must be certified by the issuing institution and validated by the Ministry of Education of the country of origin and by the PR Department of Education (admission requirements).

Start those validations early: they happen in your home country and in Puerto Rico, and they apply to the original document. The certified translation travels with it.

Need a certified translation for HCC?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • High school transcript
  • College transcripts from abroad, for transfer credit

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to HCC

  • Bring the validated documents and their certified translations to the Admissions Office during the admission process; foreign students also meet with the Director of Admissions and complete Form I-20 (Requisitos de admisión). Documents are required before you start courses (catalog, section 3.3).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For HCC that means we translate your diploma and transcripts into English or Spanish; the certifications by your school, your ministry and the Puerto Rico Department of Education, and the equivalency evaluation, come from those offices.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a translation if my diploma is in Spanish?

No. HCC asks for a certified Spanish or English translation only if necessary (Academic Catalog 2025-2027 (PDF)).

Can the translation be into Spanish instead of English?

Yes. The catalog accepts a certified translation into either language (Spanish catalog).

Who evaluates my foreign diploma?

A college employee or a third party, most likely the Puerto Rico Postsecondary Institutions Board (Academic Catalog 2025-2027 (PDF)).

What validations does HCC ask for besides the translation?

Certification by the issuing school and validation by your country's Ministry of Education and by the Puerto Rico Department of Education (Requisitos de admisión).

Can I transfer credits from a college abroad?

Yes, from legitimate foreign institutions as HCC determines, course by course, with a C or better and less than six years old (Academic Catalog 2025-2027 (PDF)).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
