How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
Hofstra University asks international first-year applicants for their 9th, 10th and 11th grade transcripts, or national exam certificates, with an official English translation, and graduate applicants for an official English translation of transcripts not in English; it does not say who must translate.
Hofstra University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Transfer applicants from universities outside the US also need a course-by-course and GPA evaluation from a NACES member, which we do not provide.
Hofstra at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Hofstra asks for the transcript "and official translation in English" (how to apply) and, for graduate applicants, an official English translation (graduate FAQ), without restricting who makes it, so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. Hofstra requirements in detail
Translation (first-year)
Complete 9th, 10th and 11th grade transcripts and an official translation in English, or national exam or government certificates (International admission: how to apply).
Translation (graduate)
If transcripts are not in English, an official English translation is required (Graduate admission: FAQ).
Who may translate
Not stated.
Country credentials (first-year)
Original official documents from your school or issuing body, with an official English translation if needed: BGCSE (Bahamas), CSEC or CAPE (Caribbean), Baccalaureate results (France and Francophone Africa), WASSCE with scratch card (West Africa), SSC and HSC (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh), IGCSE and A levels (UK system) (International admission: country-specific credentials).
Evaluation (transfer)
A course-by-course and GPA evaluation is required of international applicants with study at an institution outside the US; Hofstra will not issue a transfer credit evaluation without it. NACES members, such as WES, Globe Language Services or SpanTran (International admission: how to apply).
Evaluation (graduate)
Not required; a WES evaluation may be requested by the admissions counselor or department (Graduate admission: FAQ).
Where to submit
The my.hofstra.edu portal, or email to the application update address with your name and Hofstra ID (International admission: how to apply).
Two-step admission
After a conditional acceptance you send financial documents for the I-20; bank statements must be in English (how to apply, FAQ).
First-year: three years of grades, or the national exam
Hofstra asks international first-year applicants for the complete 9th, 10th and 11th grade transcript and an official English translation, or any national exam or government certificates earned (how to apply).
Its country list spells out what it needs by region: the BGCSE for the Bahamas; CSEC and/or CAPE for the Caribbean; Baccalaureate results for France and Francophone Africa; the WASSCE report and scratch card for Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Liberia; SSC and HSC results for India, Pakistan and Bangladesh; and IGCSE, O levels or AS/A levels for British schools.
The documents must be the original official ones issued by your school or the exam body, with an official English translation where they are in another language; the FAQ adds that a transcript counts as official when sent by a counselor or other school staff, and reminds applicants that all transcripts must be in English (FAQ).
Everything can be uploaded to the my.hofstra.edu portal or emailed as PDFs.
Transfer: no credit statement without a NACES evaluation
Any international applicant with current or past enrollment at a university outside the US needs a foreign credit evaluation with a course-by-course assessment and GPA; Hofstra says it will not issue a credit evaluation showing what transfers without one.
It recommends having an approved provider send the official transcript and evaluation together electronically, points to the NACES list, and names World Education Services, Globe Language Services and SpanTran as examples (how to apply).
The evaluator needs your records in English first.
WES asks for a professional translation and refuses applicant translations; SpanTran, now The Evaluation Company, accepts outside translators only if certified by the American Translators Association.
For secondary records, the FAQ notes an evaluation from WES, SpanTran or Scholaro can help with credit for A levels, the Abitur, CAPE or the IB (FAQ).
Graduate: translation yes, WES no
Hofstra's graduate FAQ answers both questions in one line: you do not need a WES evaluation, but transcripts not in English need an official English translation.
The admissions counselor or the academic department may still request a WES evaluation (graduate FAQ). Once all required documents are in, the I-20 takes about five business days.

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.

- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Hofstra
Upload the original documents and their translations to the my.hofstra.edu portal, or email them as PDF attachments with your full name and Hofstra ID (International admission: country-specific credentials).
Transfer applicants can have the evaluation agency send the official transcript and evaluation to Hofstra electronically (International admission: how to apply).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.
For Hofstra that means we translate your records; the course-by-course and GPA evaluation transfer applicants need comes from a NACES member.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
Frequently asked questions
Who can translate my transcripts for Hofstra?
Hofstra asks for an official English translation without saying who makes it (International admission: how to apply). Hofstra University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
Do I need a credential evaluation to transfer to Hofstra?
Yes, if you studied at a university outside the US: a course-by-course and GPA evaluation from a NACES member such as WES, Globe Language Services or SpanTran (International admission: how to apply).
Do I need WES for a Hofstra graduate program?
No, but you need an official English translation if your transcripts are not in English; WES may be requested (Graduate admission: FAQ).
Can I submit my WASSCE or SSC results instead of a transcript?
Hofstra accepts national exam or government certificates and lists them by region, such as the WASSCE with scratch card or the SSC and HSC (International admission: country-specific credentials).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
