How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Henry Ford College accepts high school and college records from outside the US only as an official evaluation from an approved NACES service, such as ECE, WES or The Evaluation Company, sent by the agency to HFC: a general evaluation for high school, a course-by-course evaluation for transfer credit.

HFC's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; the translation comes first and goes to the agency with your records.

HFC's own translation rule is for dependents' marriage and birth certificates, which need a certified English translation; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

HFC at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

HFC asks for an evaluation from an approved NACES service such as ECE, WES or The Evaluation Company (F-1 admission), and WES accepts a certified translation from a professional translation service (WES translation rules); ECE accepts one as well, while The Evaluation Company asks for a translator certified by ATA. Worth knowing about HFC

NACES evaluation

The only way HFC reads records from abroad.

Two HFC links

Custom application forms for ECE and TEC.

Certified for dependents

Marriage and birth certificates in certified English.

HFC requirements in detail

Translation

HFC states no translation rule for transcripts; foreign high school and college records must be evaluated by an approved NACES service (International (F-1) students). The translation is what the agency needs to evaluate a document not in English.

Who may translate

Set by the evaluation agency. WES and ECE accept a translation from a professional service; The Evaluation Company asks for an ATA-certified translator (see below).

Evaluation

A general evaluation for high school transcripts; a course-by-course evaluation for college credit, showing course name, US credits and US grade (Transcript evaluation for international high schools and colleges).

Approved services

ECE and The Evaluation Company through HFC's own application links, or WES; other NACES members also qualify (International (F-1) students).

Official means

Sent directly from the evaluation service to HFC Admissions in Dearborn, by mail, email (enroll@hfcc.edu) or fax (Transcript evaluation for international high schools and colleges).

Dependents and funds

Spouse's marriage certificate and child's birth certificate with a certified English translation if applicable; the bank statement must be in English (International (F-1) students).

Deadlines (F-1)

New students: June 15 for fall, November 1 for winter. Transfers from a US school: July 15, December 1, March 1 (new, transfer).

Residents and US applicants

The same NACES rule applies to every applicant with education outside the US; a GED transcript is the alternative proof (admissions documents).

High school, college credit and course descriptions

HFC uses the evaluation for two different purposes.

For admission, it must show that you earned the equivalent of a US high school diploma or of an associate, bachelor's, master's or professional degree; a general evaluation is enough for a high school record (transcript evaluation).

For credit, a course-by-course evaluation lets HFC count your courses as general college credit.

If you want credit for a specific HFC course, you also send a course description, from your university's website, catalog or syllabi; it may arrive separately from the evaluation (Transcript evaluation for international high schools and colleges).

A description that is not in English is worth translating before you send it.

The rule is not limited to F-1 students.

HFC's admissions documents page applies it to every applicant: records from outside the US count only when an approved NACES service sends its evaluation directly to HFC, and transcripts you hand in yourself, even in a sealed envelope, are not official.

High school transcripts from Ontario in English are the exception and may come straight from the school (admissions documents).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

HFC names three services and links to custom applications for two of them.

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator, such as a certified translation agency; it does not accept translations by applicants and does not translate documents itself.

ECE asks for complete, word-for-word translations in the same format as the original and lets applicants prepare them, or sells a Translation Waiver under which it translates internally for the report, with no translation delivered to you.

The Evaluation Company accepts an outside translator only if certified by the American Translators Association, or translates with its own team.

If you use TEC's HFC application, eVerbary can assign a translator individually certified by ATA on request: ask for a free quote and write that it is for a TEC evaluation for HFC. See also translation for credential evaluation.

Need a certified translation for HFC?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school diploma and transcripts, for the general evaluation
  • University transcripts and degree certificates, for a course-by-course evaluation
  • Course descriptions or syllabi, for specific HFC course credit
  • Marriage certificate (spouse) and birth certificates (children), for F-2 dependents

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to HFC

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For HFC that means we translate your records, course descriptions and certificates; the general or course-by-course evaluation is ordered by you from a NACES service, which sends it to HFC.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Does HFC accept a certified translation of my transcript instead of an evaluation?

No. HFC requires an evaluation from an approved NACES service, sent by the agency (International (F-1) students). The translation goes to the agency: WES, for example, wants one from a professional translator (WES).

Which evaluation do I need for HFC?

A general evaluation for high school; a course-by-course evaluation if you want college credit transferred (Transcript evaluation for international high schools and colleges).

Do my course descriptions need to be translated?

HFC needs a description, in addition to the course-by-course evaluation, to give credit for a specific HFC course (Transcript evaluation for international high schools and colleges); a description in another language should be translated so the college can read it.

My spouse's marriage certificate is not in English. What does HFC need?

A copy of the certificate with a certified English translation (International (F-1) students). A certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary is that kind of translation.

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for The Evaluation Company?

Yes, on request through a free quote; write that the translation is for a TEC evaluation for HFC. ATA certifies translators into English only for some languages, such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Chinese and Arabic.

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
