Georgia State University: Translation Requirements for Documents in Another Language
Georgia State University asks bachelor's applicants for academic records in the original language accompanied by an English translation, without saying who makes it; graduate admissions prefer a translation certified by the issuing university and, when it does not translate, accept a word-for-word translation from an official translation agency. Georgia State University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. First-year records are evaluated in-house; transfer credit and some graduate colleges need an evaluation from an agency, which we do not provide.
Original + English
Every record in its own language, with a translation.
Agency as fallback
Graduate: the issuing university first, then an official translation agency.
College lists
Some graduate colleges accept evaluations only from named agencies.
Georgia State requirements at a glance
| What Georgia State asks for | |
|---|---|
| Translation (bachelor's) | All records in the original native language, accompanied by an English translation (first-year, transfer). |
| Who may translate (bachelor's) | Not stated (source). |
| Translation (graduate) | Certified by the issuing college or university; if it does not offer English translations, a word-for-word translation from an official translation agency. For the in-house evaluation: the original transcript with a signed copy of the certified translation (source). |
| First-year evaluation | In-house; no agency report for international first-year records (source). |
| Transfer evaluation | A NACES course-by-course evaluation; Josef Silny (Georgia State application), WES Basic or ICAP, The Evaluation Company (course analysis) and ECE are named (source, knowledge base). |
| Graduate evaluation | In-house for most colleges; agency-only lists for Education & Human Development, Nursing & Health Professions and Public Health (source). |
| Who sends bachelor's documents | Verified school counselors, national examination boards, ministry of education officials or EducationUSA, by email to adminternational@gsu.edu with your name and Panther Number (source). |
| Deadlines | International first-year, Atlanta campus: April 1. Transfer: November 1 (spring), April 1 (summer), July 1 (fall), with earlier priority dates (first-year, transfer). |
| Does it accept eVerbary? | Yes. The bachelor's international pages ask for "an English translation" with the original and do not restrict who makes it (first-year, transfer), and graduate admissions accept a word-for-word translation from an official translation agency when your university does not issue one (graduate admissions). Bachelor's admission: in-house for first-years, NACES for transfers
Georgia State reviews international secondary records itself. It wants the graduation certificate, transcripts covering at least three recent years, the mark sheet with final exam results, and any national exams needed for university entry at home, and it names specific credentials: the French baccalaureate with its relevé de notes, IB, CXC and CAPE, WAEC (with a verification step after you apply), IGCSE, GCSE and A levels, India's CBSE and CISCE Year 10 and Year 12 results with the admit card, and Ethiopia's NEAEA results (source). Documents students send themselves are unofficial unless the ministry or exam board can verify them online, and nothing is previewed before you apply.
College work abroad is different. Transfer applicants order a course-by-course evaluation, based on official documents and showing US credit and GPA, from a NACES agency that reports to Undergraduate Admissions; the transfer page adds that further verification or translation may be requested (source). Georgia State classifies anyone educated outside the US as international for admission, including applicants still waiting for a green card. Its associate-degree campus has its own page: Perimeter College.
Graduate admissions: the issuing university first
The Office of Graduate Admissions asks for the original documents and an English translation, and wants that translation certified by the university that issued them. If your university does not translate, a word-for-word translation from an official translation agency is accepted, and both versions go into the application (source). That is where a certified translation from a professional service fits.
Evaluation depends on the college. Andrew Young, Arts & Sciences, the Arts, Biomedical Sciences and Robinson use an in-house review of degree equivalency, and Education & Human Development varies by program. Nursing & Health Professions accept Josef Silny (recommended), ECE or WES; Public Health accepts WES only; Education lists Josef Silny, Educational Perspectives, SpanTran and the Institute of Foreign Credential Services (source). Indian three-year degrees earned with Division or Class I standing at a university accredited by NAAC with an A grade may count as a bachelor's. Nursing and Public Health need official transcripts for review; the other colleges review uploaded unofficial copies.
Where Georgia State's pages differ
The overview on the international first-year page lists official evaluations of all foreign transcripts among the materials every international applicant submits, while the evaluation section of the same page says Georgia State evaluates first-year records in-house (source). The graduate admissions page puts the Robinson College of Business on its in-house list, while Robinson's international page says three-year degrees need an evaluation from Josef Silny, ECE or WES (graduate admissions). We have not resolved either difference; ask adminternational@gsu.edu or your program before you pay for a report.
Documents applicants usually translate
- High school transcripts (at least three recent years) and the graduation certificate
- Mark sheets and national exam results, such as WAEC, CBSE or the baccalaureate
- University transcripts and mark sheets for every term, for transfer or graduate admission
- Degree certificate, when the transcript does not show the degree
What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
Uploading the translation to Georgia State
Bachelor's applicants: your school, exam board, ministry or EducationUSA emails the records to adminternational@gsu.edu, quoting your name and Panther Number (source). Every document must arrive in its original language with an English translation; if your translation is made outside the school, ask International Admissions how to send it. NACES evaluations for transfer credit go to Undergraduate Admissions electronically (source).
Graduate applicants upload transcripts in the application portal; uploads are unofficial, and admitted students later have their institutions send official transcripts showing the degree (source).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them. For Georgia State that means we translate your records; NACES evaluations for transfer credit and for the graduate colleges that require them come from the agencies those pages list.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions
My university does not issue English translations. Who can translate for graduate admission?
Georgia State accepts a word-for-word translation from an official translation agency in that case (source). A certified translation from eVerbary is that kind of translation.
Who may translate my high school records?
The bachelor's pages ask for an English translation with the original and do not name a translator (source).
Do I need WES for my foreign high school diploma?
No. Georgia State evaluates international first-year records in-house (source).
Which evaluation do I need for my graduate program?
It depends on the college: most review in-house, while Nursing & Health Professions, Public Health and Education accept only the agencies they list (source).
I have a three-year degree from India. Does it count?
It may count as a bachelor's if earned with Division or Class I standing at a university accredited by NAAC with an A grade; other three-year degrees count as three years of study (source).
Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?
No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
