How we know · policy checked on October 26, 2026

Essex County College requires F-1 applicants to have their transcripts and proof of graduation evaluated by a NACES or AICE member, and for credit from a university abroad it asks you to send the official transcript and a certified English translation to that evaluation service.

ECC's evaluation agencies, such as WES and ECE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary. Translate first, then order the evaluation; the evaluation itself is something we do not provide.

ECC at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

ECC accepts evaluations from NACES and AICE members (international students) and asks for a certified English translation with a foreign college transcript, without saying who must make it (transfer FAQ); WES, a NACES member, accepts a translation from a professional translation service (WES). Worth knowing about ECC

Evaluation for F-1

Even the high school record goes to an evaluator.

NACES or AICE

Any member of either association.

Certified translation

Sent with the transcript to the evaluator.

ECC requirements in detail

Evaluation (F-1)

Official transcripts and proof of graduation, evaluated by a credential evaluator approved by ECC (International students).

Accepted evaluators

Members of NACES or AICE (International students).

Translation

For foreign college credit: the official transcript and a certified English translation, if needed, go to the evaluation service (Transfer to ECC: FAQ). The catalog asks for F-1 documents current and in English (catalog).

Who may translate

Not stated by ECC; set by the evaluation agency.

What the credentials must show

Equivalence of US high school graduation (catalog).

Deadlines (F-1)

Fall: May 1. Spring: August 1. No summer admission (International students).

Transfer credit limit

Up to half the credits of the associate degree or certificate, usually 30 and 15 (catalog).

The high school record goes through an evaluator too

Many community colleges read a translated high school diploma themselves.

ECC does not: its checklist for F-1 applicants asks for an official copy of your academic transcripts and proof of graduation, evaluated by a credential evaluator the college approves, and the catalog says the educational credentials must show the equivalent of US high school graduation (checklist, catalog).

ECC accepts evaluations from members of NACES and AICE, so you choose the agency (International students).

Applicants transferring from another US school send the same evaluated proof of high school graduation, plus passport, visa, I-94 and previous I-20 copies and a Transfer Recommendation Form from their current school (International students).

The complete package is emailed to the International Student Services Office. The F-1 deadlines are May 1 for fall and August 1 for spring, and ECC does not admit F-1 students for summer.

College credit: translation and transcript travel together

ECC's transfer FAQ spells out the order for credits earned at a university abroad: you submit your official transcript and a certified English translation, if needed, to an evaluation service, and the service sends the transcript to ECC so the college can decide which credits transfer (transfer FAQ).

ECC does not say who must translate, so the agency's own rule applies. A transcript evaluator then notifies you in writing about the courses accepted, which also show in Degree Works.

At most half the credits of an associate degree or certificate can come from transfer, usually 30 and 15 credits (catalog). To have your evaluation before registration, transcripts and the application must arrive by July 5 for fall or March 15 for summer (Transfer to ECC: FAQ).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator and does not accept translations made by applicants; you upload it in your WES account (WES).

ECE accepts a complete, literal translation from anyone, including you, and also sells an $85 translation waiver (ECE).

The Evaluation Company accepts an outside translation only from a translator certified by ATA (TEC); for that case eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator through a free quote. Check the agency's rule before you order.

Need a certified translation for ECC?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

  • Secondary school diploma or leaving certificate
  • Secondary school transcripts or mark sheets
  • University transcripts and degree certificates, for credit
  • Bank statements and affidavits of support, if not in English

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to ECC

  • The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your documents, not to ECC. The agency sends the evaluated transcript to ECC (Transfer to ECC: FAQ).

  • The rest of the F-1 package (application, I-20 application, affidavits of support, financial documents and immunization form) is emailed to the International Student Services Office (International students).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For ECC that means we translate your diploma and transcripts for the agency; the NACES or AICE evaluation is ordered by you after the translation, and the agency sends it to the college.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an evaluation of my high school diploma for Essex County College?

Yes, as an F-1 applicant: transcripts and proof of graduation must be evaluated by an evaluator ECC approves (International students).

Which evaluation agencies does ECC accept?

Any member of NACES or AICE (International students).

Who translates my university transcript?

ECC asks for a certified English translation sent with the transcript to the evaluation service and does not say who must make it (Transfer to ECC: FAQ). WES, for example, accepts one from a professional translation service (WES).

When are the F-1 deadlines?

May 1 for fall and August 1 for spring; there is no summer admission (International students).

How many credits can I transfer from abroad?

Up to half the credits of the associate degree or certificate, usually 30 and 15 (catalog).

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
