How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026

Brandeis asks first-year applicants whose records are not in English to submit both the original documents and English translations, and its graduate admissions FAQ requires non-English transcripts to be translated by a certified translation agency, not by the applicant.

Brandeis University accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.

A credential evaluation is not normally needed for graduate admission, though Brandeis may ask for a NACES course-by-course report, and Brandeis Online requires one from WES or ECE; we do not provide evaluations.

Brandeis at a glance

Does it accept eVerbary? Yes

The graduate FAQ requires a "certified translation agency" and bars self-translation (graduate FAQ), and the first-year checklist asks for English translations without restricting who makes them (first-year checklist); a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets both. Worth knowing about Brandeis

Original plus translation

Undergraduates send both versions of every record.

Agency for graduate

A certified translation agency; no self-translation.

Evaluation on request

Graduate evaluations only if Brandeis asks.

Brandeis requirements in detail

Translation (undergraduate)

If the original documents are not in English, submit both the originals and English translations (First-year applicants (Undergraduate Admissions)).

Translation (graduate)

Non-English transcripts must be translated by a certified translation agency; applicants may not translate their own (Graduate admissions FAQs).

Who may translate

Undergraduate: not stated. Graduate: a certified translation agency (Graduate admissions FAQs).

Evaluation

Undergraduate: none mentioned. Graduate: typically not required; if needed, Brandeis contacts you for a NACES course-by-course evaluation (Graduate admissions FAQs). Brandeis Online: WES or ECE for degrees earned abroad (Brandeis Online: international applicants).

Records required

Official high school transcripts and externally graded national exam marks, with official grades from all years of secondary school (First-year applicants (Undergraduate Admissions)).

Deadlines (undergraduate)

Early Decision I and Early Action November 2; Early Decision II and Regular Decision January 15 (Application process and deadlines); transfer: spring November 2, fall March 15 (Transfer applicants).

Graduate: unofficial first

Unofficial transcripts for review; official transcripts only on enrollment (Graduate admissions FAQs).

Undergraduate: both versions, every year

Brandeis' first-year checklist asks for official copies of all high school transcripts, any GED certificate and marks from externally graded national exams, and adds that when the originals are not in English you send both the originals and English translations (First-year applicants (Undergraduate Admissions)).

The transcripts must cover all years of secondary school, including courses taken for credit outside your high school.

The page does not say who must translate, so a certified translation from a professional service fits.

Because Brandeis sees the original next to the English version, the translation should follow the original line by line: every subject, mark and exam title in the same order, with the grading scale translated rather than converted.

Graduate admission: a certified agency, and no self-translation

Brandeis' consolidated graduate admissions FAQ is explicit: international applicants whose transcripts are not in English must have them translated by a certified translation agency, and applicants may not translate their own (Graduate admissions FAQs).

Unofficial transcripts are enough for review; official ones are required only on enrollment.

The same FAQ asks you not to convert grades or GPA to the US 4.0 scale: report the marks exactly as on your transcript and include the grading key (Graduate admissions FAQs).

An evaluation is typically not required, but Brandeis reserves the right to ask for a NACES course-by-course report, for example to confirm that a three-year bachelor's degree equals a US four-year degree.

Brandeis Online: the evaluation comes first

Brandeis Online works differently.

If you earned your degree outside the US, you send your official transcripts or mark sheets for a course-by-course evaluation by Educational Credential Evaluators or World Education Services, at your own cost (Brandeis Online: international applicants).

The agency then sets its own translation rule for records not in English; see translation for WES.

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to Brandeis

  • Undergraduates apply through the Common Application or Scoir and follow missing items in the DEISconnect portal; send the original and its English translation together with each record (First-year applicants (Undergraduate Admissions)).

  • Graduate applicants upload unofficial transcripts and translations at apply.grad.brandeis.edu and send officials after accepting the offer (Graduate admissions FAQs).

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For Brandeis that means we translate your records; a NACES evaluation, if Brandeis asks for one, and the WES or ECE report for Brandeis Online, come from an evaluation agency.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.
