How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Maryland Board of Physicians publishes no translation rule of its own: international graduates must be certified by ECFMG, and every initial applicant needs a completed FCVS profile and the FSMB Uniform Application before filing online.
ECFMG accepts certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary, word for word and never made by the applicant.
We translate; we do not open your FCVS profile, request ECFMG certification or file the Board's online application.

Maryland Board of Physicians requirements in detail
Translation
No translation rule on the Board's licensure FAQ or application pages (FAQ, applications).
Evaluation
International graduates must be certified by ECFMG and complete two years of accredited US postgraduate training (Physician licensure information and FAQs).
Who may translate (ECFMG)
A government official, a medical school official or a professional translation service; not the applicant (ECFMG: English translations).
FCVS
A completed FCVS profile and the FSMB Uniform Application are required to use the online Initial Medical Licensure application (Physician applications).
Timing
The Board encourages applicants to start FCVS at least six months before they need the profile sent; with no discrepancies, licensure averages under 20 days (Physician licensure information and FAQs).
English
Applicants must demonstrate oral and written competency in English as required by the Board (Physician licensure information and FAQs).
ECFMG and FCVS read the translations
Maryland's initial application is built on FSMB data: you apply for an FCVS profile, complete the Uniform Application, and then file the Board's online Initial Medical Licensure application with your Federation ID and fingerprint receipt number (Physician licensure information and FAQs).
The Board accepts no paper initial applications since July 1, 2022 (Physician applications).
For international graduates, the credential that carries the translation rule is ECFMG certification, which Maryland requires (Physician licensure information and FAQs).
ECFMG asks for a word-for-word English translation, prepared from the original or a copy, by a professional translation service or an official, with a certification statement, uploaded with the original-language document; it does not accept translations by applicants (ECFMG: English translations).
Start early
The Board warns that an FCVS profile can take several months and encourages applicants to complete the FCVS application at least six months before they need the profile submitted (Physician licensure information and FAQs).
Having certified translations of your diploma, transcripts and name documents ready when you open the profile avoids requests for missing items later.
Maryland does not issue temporary licenses, and offers reciprocity only with Virginia and the District of Columbia; reciprocity with Virginia is limited to graduates of American medical schools (Physician licensure information and FAQs).

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to Maryland Board of Physicians
Upload the translations with the original-language documents to ECFMG, following its instructions (ECFMG), and give FCVS the documents its profile asks for; FCVS then sends your profile to the Board, and you file the online Initial Medical Licensure application (Physician licensure information and FAQs).
Name changes on an existing license are submitted online through your practitioner profile (Physician applications).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For Maryland that means we translate your records for ECFMG and FCVS; we do not open your FCVS profile, request ECFMG certification or file the Initial Medical Licensure application.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
