How we know · policy checked on October 21, 2026
The Colorado Board of Nursing publishes no translation rule of its own: RN applicants whose nursing program was outside the US must obtain a Credential Evaluation Service review from TruMerit (formerly CGFNS) or from any member of NACES or AICE, and the agency sets the translation rule.
NACES members such as WES and ECE accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary.
TruMerit wants nursing transcripts translated by the school or by itself, and the evaluation comes from the agency, not from us.
Colorado BON at a glance
Does it accept eVerbary? Yes
Colorado's RN application accepts a Credential Evaluation Service review from TruMerit, any NACES member or any AICE member (RN application), and WES, a NACES member, accepts a translation by a professional translator or certified translation agency (WES translation rules), so a certified translation from a professional service such as eVerbary meets it. Worth knowing about Colorado BON
Any NACES or AICE member
Not only TruMerit: Colorado accepts the member agencies of two associations.
Evaluation before applying
The application asks whether the review is already complete.
English exam if needed
Required when the nursing program was not taught in English.
Colorado BON requirements in detail
Translation
No board rule of its own. The board asks for a credential evaluation, and the agency handles documents in other languages (RN initial application preview (Colorado Board of Nursing)).
Who may translate
Depends on the agency: WES wants a professional translator (WES: translation requirements); ECE accepts complete, literal, word-for-word translations (ECE: documentation requirements); TruMerit wants the school or TruMerit to translate nursing transcripts (TruMerit: CES Professional Report).
Evaluation
A Credential Evaluation Service review from TruMerit (formerly CGFNS), a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or a member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE) (RN initial application preview (Colorado Board of Nursing)).
English proficiency
If your program was not taught in English, proof of passing an English language proficiency exam (RN initial application preview (Colorado Board of Nursing)).
When
The online RN application asks whether you have already completed the evaluation and, if needed, the English exam (RN initial application preview (Colorado Board of Nursing)).
Applications
Filed online; the board publishes previews of each application on its applications page (Applications and forms).
A wider choice of agencies than most boards
Many boards send foreign-educated nurses to one or two named agencies. Colorado's RN application accepts TruMerit and, beyond it, any NACES or AICE member (RN initial application preview (Colorado Board of Nursing)).
The board's FAQ still calls CGFNS the most popular service for nurses (FAQ), but the application does not make it the only one.
The agency you pick decides the translation rule. TruMerit requires nursing transcripts sent and translated by the school, or translated by TruMerit for a fee (TruMerit), so an outside translation is not used there.
WES asks for an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator (WES); ECE accepts complete, literal translations and also offers a translation waiver (ECE).
Before ordering, check that the agency you choose evaluates nursing education for a board, with the theory and clinical detail the board needs.
Order of steps
Ask your school to send records to the agency, order the translation, submit it to the agency with your application there, and wait for the report.
Then complete the fingerprint background check and the online RN application, which asks whether the evaluation is done (RN initial application preview (Colorado Board of Nursing)). See translation for WES for that agency's format.

What an eVerbary translation includes
- A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
- Grades, hours and credits exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA or equivalency.
- A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload or print.
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.
- Notarization added at checkout ($34.90 per order) when the office asks for a notarized translation.
Submitting the translation to Colorado BON
The translation goes to the evaluation agency, following that agency's instructions; WES, for example, takes uploads of translations in your WES account (WES: translation requirements). The agency's report then reaches the Colorado Board of Nursing as the agency and the board arrange it.
The license application itself is filed online, after the evaluation and the background check (RN initial application preview (Colorado Board of Nursing)).
What we do not do
eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service or a licensing agency: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, we cannot send documents on behalf of the school or authority that issued them, and we do not file the license application.
For Colorado that means we translate the records the agency asks for; the evaluation comes from TruMerit or a NACES or AICE member, ordered by you.
How to order
- Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
- Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
- Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and submit it with the copy of the original wherever the office asks for it.
