Birth records that came from the church
For most of Danish history civil registration was carried out by the national church, which is why the document answering "birth certificate" is often a fødsels- og dåbsattest — a birth and baptism certificate — or a personattest issued by a parish register office. The church origin surprises applicants who are not Lutheran and has no bearing on the document's standing; it is simply how the register works.
