Venezuela has redenominated its currency three times: three zeros removed in 2008, five in 2018 and six in 2021. Fourteen zeros in total, which means one bolívar today corresponds to one hundred trillion of the 2008 unit.
So a statement from 2015 showing millions and one from 2023 showing tens are not comparable in any way, and a reader treating the older figure as money is off by an unimaginable factor. We reproduce the currency exactly as the statement names it — bolívar fuerte, bolívar soberano, bolívar digital — and never convert.
Dollars in practice
Much Venezuelan commerce is now transacted in US dollars, and banks offer dollar-denominated accounts, so a household's real position may sit almost entirely outside the bolívar statement.
