The balboa is the dollar
Panama uses the US dollar as legal tender. The balboa exists as a unit of account at par and as coinage, so a statement quoting balboas is quoting dollars one for one.
There is nothing to convert. A US reader seeing B/. on a Panamanian statement is reading dollars, and we say so rather than leaving an unfamiliar symbol on the page.
An international banking centre
Panama hosts a very large international banking sector, and a Panamanian statement may belong to a non-resident holder or to an entity, with correspondent banking and multi-currency activity that a domestic statement elsewhere would not show.

The cédula, with its province prefix
Panamanian statements carry the holder's cédula — a province prefix, a tomo and a folio, with PE, E or N marking birth abroad to Panamanian parents, foreigners and naturalised citizens.

The carta de referencia bancaria
Panamanian banks issue a carta de referencia bancaria — a bank reference letter stating the relationship, the account and frequently a characterisation of the account's conduct — which is a standard document in Panamanian commercial life.
