The poder, and the lawyer-notary
A Salvadoran notary is a practising lawyer authorised by the Corte Suprema de Justicia, and a power granted before one is an escritura recorded in the notary's protocol.
The notary's authorisation number is on the instrument and is checkable against the court's register. We reproduce it, because that number is what an office verifies.
Consular powers, and the diaspora
With roughly a fifth of Salvadorans living abroad, most of them in the United States, consular powers are the normal way property, pensions and civil registry matters at home get handled.
Salvadoran consulates exercise notarial functions, so a consular power is a Salvadoran notarial act. One signed before a US notary needs an apostille and protocolisation. We name the issuing office.
The types, and what each reaches
Salvadoran practice distinguishes poder general judicial, poder general administrativo and poder especial, and the type named on the instrument determines what the attorney may do.
An administrative power presented for a sale is refused, and a judicial power is what a court accepts. We name the type as printed rather than calling everything a power of attorney.

Parties are identified by DUI, nine digits written with a hyphen before the last, and a company by its NIT.
