One university, many predecessors
The University of Rwanda was formed in 2013 by merging the country's public higher education institutions, among them the National University of Rwanda (founded 1963), KIST and KIE. If you studied at one of those before 2013, the University of Rwanda now holds the records and issues the transcript.
Rwanda made English the language of instruction by a Cabinet decision in October 2008. Transcripts from after the switch are usually in English and may need no translation; those from before it, and from French-medium years, are in French and do.
Grades, credits and evaluators
A transcript lists modules, credits and marks on the institution's own scale, sometimes in French abbreviations. We translate the scale and the legend exactly; converting grades to a US GPA is the evaluator's job, not the translator's. See credential evaluation and WES.
Private institutions are accredited by the Higher Education Council. See our French page, our Kinyarwanda page and our Rwandan university diploma page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
State agencies set their own rules — see government agencies — and what our certification states is on this page.
How it works
Upload a photo or a scan of your document, pick the language pair and check out online. You never have to mail originals: a legible copy is all we need.
A professional human translator, never machine translation, translates the document word for word and mirrors the layout of the original. Every certified translation ships with a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy that meets the requirements of USCIS, courts and universities.
Your translation is delivered digitally, usually within 24 hours for documents of one to three pages, and same-day delivery is available. If anything needs adjusting, we revise it.
Certified vs. standard translation
A certified translation is a word-for-word translation accompanied by a signed statement attesting to its accuracy and completeness. It is what official bodies require: USCIS, courts, universities and government agencies. Certified translations are $24.95 per page, where one sheet of your document is one page, with no word cap.
A standard translation is the same professional human translation without the certificate, for when you only need to understand the content or for internal or informal use. It is billed at the same $24.95 per page with no word cap.
Frequently asked questions
My university no longer exists.
If it was public, its records passed to the University of Rwanda in 2013. Ask its registrar for the transcript; we translate it.
My transcript is in English. Do I need you?
Not for the English parts. If any stamp or page is in French or Kinyarwanda, we translate that.
Will you convert my marks to a GPA?
No. We translate the grading scale exactly; the evaluator does the conversion.
Is acceptance by universities, colleges and schools guaranteed?
Yes. Our certified translations are guaranteed to be accepted by universities, colleges and schools in the United States — and by USCIS, the NVC, courts, government agencies and employers — or your money back. The guarantee covers the translation itself, not the original document or the admission decision, and it covers credential evaluation agencies such as WES and ECE as well. Full terms are in our refund policy.
