Twenty digits, and the BIK
A Russian account number is twenty digits, and a transfer additionally requires the bank's BIK — a nine-digit identifier — and the bank's correspondent account. Three numbers where most systems have one.
The statement prints all of them and a US reader cannot tell which is the account. We reproduce each as labelled.
The INN, and who the account belongs to
Russian financial documents carry the INN — the taxpayer identification number, twelve digits for an individual — which identifies the account holder and the counterparties on transfer lines.
It is the identifier that matches a statement to a person, and it appears alongside the name in most payment descriptions. We reproduce it exactly.
The stamp is what makes it a document
A Russian bank statement for a formal purpose is printed at the branch and carries the bank's round seal and an officer's signature. A printout from an app has no standing with Russian authorities and frequently none abroad.
We describe the seal and translate its text rather than describing the page as stamped. Banks also issue a справка — a certificate of account and balance — which is what a consulate generally requires.
Rouble, the decimal comma, and the rates
Russian numbers write a comma as the decimal separator with a space for thousands. Statements state the currency in the header, and many Russians hold parallel rouble, dollar and euro accounts.
