Dowód rejestracyjny, and the karta pojazdu
Poland issues the dowód rejestracyjny, the registration certificate, and historically also a karta pojazdu, a vehicle card issued with the first registration and surrendered on transfer.
The karta pojazdu was discontinued for new vehicles in 2020 but older cars still carry one, and its absence on an older car is a question a buyer asks. We name which documents the file holds.
The sale contract, and the two-week deadline
A Polish transfer is made by an ordinary written umowa kupna-sprzedaży — no notary needed — and the buyer must notify the starostwo within a statutory deadline or face a fine.
So a Polish file holds a plain typed contract rather than an official form, and that is correct. We translate it as the operative instrument.
The inspection, and the stamps
The registration certificate carries stamps for the periodic technical inspection (badanie techniczne), and an expired inspection invalidates the registration for use.
Those stamps are part of the document's content rather than clutter, and we transcribe their dates and station numbers.
