Biegły sądowy, on the court president's list
A Polish biegły sądowy is appointed to a list held by the president of a regional court for a fixed term, in a named specialty, and takes an oath. The report states the appointment and the specialty.
A court may also appoint an ad hoc expert who is not on a list where the specialty requires it, and that appointment is recorded in the file. We name which the expert is.
The opinia, and the supplementary opinion
The report is an opinia answering the court's questions (teza dowodowa). Where a party raises objections the court frequently orders a supplementary opinion (opinia uzupełniająca) rather than a new expert, and the expert may also be questioned at a hearing.
So a Polish file commonly contains an opinion, objections, a supplementary opinion and a hearing record, and translating only the first leaves out the part where the conclusion was tested.
Institutes, and opinions by a body
Polish courts may commission an opinion from a scientific or specialist institute rather than an individual, and an institute opinion is signed by the participating specialists and the institute's head.
An institute opinion carries institutional weight and we name the institute and each signatory with their degrees, which Polish documents state in full and which are part of the authority.
ZUS, and the medical certifier
Much Polish medical documentation in US files is not litigation but ZUS social insurance material — an assessment by a lekarz orzecznik or a medical board deciding incapacity for work, with its own categories and its own appeal to a board.
