Gamjeong, and the court's appraiser

Korean courts obtain expert evidence by 감정 (gamjeong) — appraisal — from an appraiser the court appoints, frequently from lists maintained by the court or a professional body, and the appraiser is sworn.

Korean practice leans heavily on documentary evidence and court-obtained appraisal rather than on party experts testifying, so a Korean file with a single neutral appraisal and no competing report is the normal shape rather than a gap.

Medical appraisal, and the hospital

Medical appraisal is commonly commissioned from a university hospital department rather than an individual, and the report comes on institutional letterhead with the department and the physician named.

That institutional character is part of its weight. We name the hospital, the department and the physician's licence number rather than describing the author as a doctor.

The National Forensic Service

Criminal forensic work runs through the National Forensic Service, a state institution whose reports carry case numbers and institutional signatures and which handles autopsy, toxicology, DNA and document examination.

An NFS report is a state institution's finding rather than a retained opinion, and we name the service and the division.

Disability and labour appraisal

Korean compensation practice uses impairment rating systems, with the McBride tables long used in personal injury and the AMA guides also encountered, and an appraisal states which it applied.

A percentage means nothing without the table, and the tables do not convert into US determinations. We name the system. See our Korean page.

Ordering, and what the certification covers

Upload the document, choose certified translation at $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, and it comes back typically within 24 hours as a PDF formatted to mirror the original, with a signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead. Marginal annotations are translated in place, in the margin, and every seal, stamp and registry endorsement is translated with the text. See how we translate and certified versus standard.
