The Registro Único de Propiedad Vehicular

Panama keeps a Registro Único de Propiedad Vehicular under the ATTT, and the vehicle also holds a municipal registration and plate issued by the district where it circulates.

So a Panamanian file has a national ownership record and a municipal registration, and clients send the municipal one. We name which you have.

The Colón Free Zone, and imports

Panama's Colón Free Zone is a major regional vehicle entrepôt, so vehicles pass through with their own import and re-export paperwork and a car may have a foreign title behind the Panamanian record.

The customs declaration is what proves the vehicle entered nationalised rather than in transit. We translate it with the registration.

The transfer, and the notarised sale

A transfer runs on a notarised bill of sale, a paz y salvo showing no outstanding municipal tax or fines, and a vehicle inspection, filed with the municipality and the ATTT.

The paz y salvo is the blocker in most files. We translate it with the sale.

The plate, and the identifiers

Panamanian plates are reissued periodically and carry the year, so an older document shows a plate no longer in use. That is history rather than an error.

Owners are identified by cédula with a province prefix, by passport, or a company by its RUC. See our Spanish page.

Ordering, and what the certification covers

Upload the document, choose certified translation at $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, and it comes back typically within 24 hours as a PDF formatted to mirror the original, with a signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead. Marginal annotations are translated in place, in the margin, and every seal, stamp and registry endorsement is translated with the text. See how we translate and certified versus standard.
