The mukhtiyarnama, and the ward office
A Nepali power (mukhtiyarnama) is registered at a District Administration Office or a Land Revenue Office depending on the act, and a local ward office commonly issues the supporting recommendation.
That recommendation is a real prerequisite rather than a formality, and its absence stalls the file. We translate it with the power.
Powers granted abroad, and the chain
Nepal is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so a US document is notarised, authenticated by the Department of State, legalised by the Nepali embassy, and then attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu.
An apostille alone is refused. The chain is long and it is the thing that delays the file, so we name the endorsements the document carries.
Land, and the kitta number
Nepali land is identified by district, VDC or municipality, ward, and kitta (plot) number, with area in ropani-aana-paisa-daam in the hills and bigha-katha-dhur in the plains.
Those units have no US equivalent and converting them silently loses the record. We give the figures as written with the conversion alongside.
The Bikram Sambat calendar
Nepal dates official documents in Bikram Sambat, roughly 56 to 57 years ahead of the Gregorian year, with months of unequal and varying length.
A power dated 2082 is from 2025 or 2026, and the conversion is not arithmetic — it needs a table. We convert each date individually and give both. See our Nepali page.
