The court confirmation is not the divorce
A Korean divorce by agreement (협의이혼) runs through a cooling-off period — one month with no minor children, three months where there are — after which the family court confirms the parties' intention to divorce. That confirmation is not a judgment and not the divorce: the divorce takes legal effect only when it is registered at the local office.
So a court confirmation document on its own does not show a completed divorce. What does is the marriage relations certificate (혼인관계증명서), which records the divorce. A judicial divorce, the other route, does produce a judgment. See our Korean marriage certificate page.
Two systems, and romanisation
South Korea abolished the hoju household register on 1 January 2008, so a file routinely holds documents from both systems recording overlapping facts in different structures. The translation says which system each came from.
Korean names romanise several ways — Lee, Yi and Rhee are one name. We follow the passport and note genuine differences. See our Korean page.
What USCIS requires
Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), a foreign-language document must be accompanied by a complete English translation and the translator's certification that it is accurate. Every seal, stamp and marginal note is part of the document, so every one is translated.
