Escritura pública, and the notarial protocol
An Ecuadorian power for significant acts is granted by escritura pública before a notary, who keeps the original in the protocol and issues certified copies numbered as first, second and subsequent.
The copy in hand says which it is, and a receiving office may care. We reproduce the notary's office number, the protocol reference and the copy designation.

Property transactions are inscribed at the cantonal Registro de la Propiedad, and a power authorising a sale is examined against the property description and the municipal certificates.

The cédula, and the revocation
Parties are identified by cédula de ciudadanía, ten digits whose first two give the province of registration and whose last is a check digit.
