Notarised, and registered for tax
Albanian leases are commonly notarised, and rental income is taxable with the contract reported to the tax authority, which is what gives the document standing beyond the parties.
The notarial act number and the tax registration are on the document where they exist, and we translate both rather than describing the page as notarised.
Registration against the property
A lease may be registered in the immovable property register, which records it against the property and protects the tenant against a purchaser.
An unregistered lease binds the parties only. We translate the registry endorsement where it exists and name the cadastral reference.
Lek, euro and the old lek
Rent may be in lek or euro, and prices are frequently quoted in "old lek", a unit of account worth a tenth of the current lek with no note behind it.
So a figure in conversation or on an informal document may be ten times the contract figure. We say which unit a figure is in.
The personal number, and the diacritics
Parties are identified by their personal identification number from the national civil status register, which does not change.
