How we know · policy checked on October 27, 2026

Winston-Salem State University publishes no translation rule of its own: applicants who attended school outside the US must have their transcripts evaluated by WES, Educational Perspectives, IEE, Josef Silny, SpanTran or another NACES member, with a course-by-course evaluation of all college work.

WSSU's evaluation agencies, such as WES, Educational Perspectives and IEE, accept certified translations from professional services such as eVerbary; SpanTran, which WSSU recommends, and Josef Silny want an ATA-certified translator, whom eVerbary assigns on request.

You order the translation first, then the evaluation, which we do not provide.

WSSU requirements in detail

Translation

WSSU states no translation rule; foreign records reach it through an evaluation (International applicants). The agency needs the translation before it can evaluate.

Who may translate

Set by the agency: WES, Educational Perspectives and IEE accept a professional service; SpanTran (The Evaluation Company) and Josef Silny want ATA-certified translators in the US.

Evaluation

By WES, Educational Perspectives, IEE, Josef Silny, SpanTran or a NACES member; all college coursework course-by-course (International applicants).

Transfer credit

All international courses, even those taught in English, evaluated by a NACES member (transfer students).

Deadlines

Undergraduate international: August 1 for fall, December 1 for spring (International applicants). Graduate international: April 15 and September 15 (graduate applicants).

English

TOEFL or IELTS for non-native speakers, even if English was the medium of instruction; WSSU offers no ESL courses (International applicants).

What each evaluation agency asks for the translation

WES wants an exact, word-for-word translation by a professional translator or service, not by the applicant. Educational Perspectives accepts translations by a reputable translation agency or a certified professional translator.

IEE accepts a certified translator but not the applicant or a notary public, and sells its own translations.

SpanTran is WSSU's recommended service, with a custom application for WSSU at a discounted rate (International applicants).

SpanTran is now The Evaluation Company, which accepts outside translations only from translators certified by the American Translators Association, as does Josef Silny for translations made in the US.

If you use either, eVerbary can assign an ATA-certified translator on request (see below).

High school, college and transfer records

Every applicant proves high school completion; if you studied outside the US, that record goes through the evaluation, and all post-secondary coursework needs a course-by-course report (international applicants).

WSSU asks you to apply early so there is time to get school records, have them evaluated and have your bank send statements.

For transfer credit, WSSU's policy covers every international course, including courses taught in English (transfer students), so an English-language transcript still needs the evaluation, though not a translation.

Need a certified translation for WSSU?

$24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages. See the price before you pay.

Documents applicants usually translate

What an eVerbary translation includes

  • A complete English translation of every page, stamps, seals and handwritten notes included, laid out like the original so each line can be matched.
  • Grades exactly as recorded, with the grading scale the document prints. We never convert marks to a US GPA.
  • A signed certificate of translation accuracy on letterhead, with our contact details, delivered as a PDF you can upload.
  • $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, certification included; 24 hours for one to three pages as standard. Regular clients who need it can get delivery in as little as 30 minutes, on request.

Uploading the translation to WSSU

  • The translation goes to the evaluation agency with your records; for SpanTran, use the custom WSSU application linked from the international page (International applicants).

  • Your application, official high school and college transcripts, test scores and bank statements must be in by the international deadline (International applicants). On request we can email the translation directly to the admissions office.

If you need a translator certified by ATA

Some offices accept only a translator who is personally certified by the American Translators Association (ATA). eVerbary assigns one on request, for the languages ATA certifies into English:

$34.95 per page

Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian

$44.95 per page

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian

To order it, ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for WSSU, which program it is for, and that you need a translator individually certified by ATA, plus anything else the office asks for (notarization, delivery by email to the office).

We confirm the price and the translator before you pay. ATA does not certify other languages into English, so no translator anywhere holds ATA certification for them.

For those languages we provide a notarized certified translation instead, at $44.95 per page plus notarization ($34.90 per order); ask the office to confirm it accepts that, and write its answer in the quote notes.

What we do not do

eVerbary is a translation service, not a credential evaluation service: we do not issue evaluations, US equivalencies or GPA conversions, and we cannot send documents on behalf of the school that issued them.

For WSSU that means we translate your records; the evaluation is ordered by you from WES, Educational Perspectives, IEE, Josef Silny, SpanTran or another NACES member.

How to order

  1. Scan or photograph every page of the document, front and back, including any stamps on the reverse.
  2. Upload it, choose the language and "certified", and see the price before paying.
  3. Receive the PDF, usually within 24 hours for one to three pages, and upload it with the copy of the original wherever the institution asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Which evaluation services does WSSU accept?

WES, Educational Perspectives, IEE, Josef Silny, SpanTran and NACES members; SpanTran is recommended (International applicants).

Do my English-language college courses need an evaluation?

Yes. WSSU requires all international courses, even those taught in English, to be evaluated by a NACES member (Transfer students).

Can eVerbary provide an ATA-certified translator for SpanTran?

Yes, on request. Ask for a free quote and write in the notes that the translation is for a SpanTran (The Evaluation Company) evaluation for Winston-Salem State University. ATA certifies Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Ukrainian ($34.95 per page) and Japanese, Korean, Polish, Dutch, Swedish, Croatian, Danish and Persian ($44.95 per page) into English; no other languages.

When are WSSU's international deadlines?

Will eVerbary convert my grades to a US GPA?

No. The translation reproduces the grades and the grading scale exactly as they appear. A GPA conversion is credential evaluation, which the institution or an evaluation agency does.
